I watched this match live in Thailand around 2 a.m. and the reporter mentioned that she talked to Tom about her weight. She said that Tom lost about 10 kg with a better diet. 10 kg(~22 lbs) I just thought that was too much. She looked great but was really thin out there.

I've eaten in the cafeteria at the USOTC here in C. Springs and also at the one in Chula Vista, CA. It's not all bean sprouts and protein shakes. LOL. It's very easy for athletes training at either facility to gain weight if they're not careful about menu choices when they eat at the cafeteria. Namely, staying away from the ice cream counter. Heh-heh.

Logan's still thicker than Yumilke Ruiz who's arms look like sticks...and look how hard she tags the ball. Arm speed is more important than muscle. It seems like she's jumping better, too. Especially on the pipe sets, she looks like she's got more hang time and broad jumps closer to the net. I won't mention names, but a few other girls on the team might be a bit quicker and jump higher if they dropped a pound or twenty.

It's great to see the girls play up to their capabilities. Apparently, they were motivated by more than just the prospect of going home early. The buzz around Olympic Village is that if USA didn't make it out of the prelims, Toshi was going to be fired and replaced by...Nikolai Karpol for the next quadrenium. He was already in negotiations with USAV and checking out condos in Colorado Springs. The ski patrol has been alerted to the danger of avalanches being set off during intra-squad scrimmages. Is this true? Karpol coaching the US? That would be really interesting. I personally think Lang Ping would be a great coach. She does have some connections in the US. If Toshi does get shown the door, USA Volleyball should look into hiring her.
