apparently "Ichiban" translates to "number one" or "the best" in Japanese I know that "Ichiro" means "number 1 son".

I hadn't logged onto MTG Arena today, and I was surprised to discover that an extremely obnoxious card that has been making everyone's lives miserable for over a year was finally banned in the format I play (it was already banned in the rotating format, but I rarely play that one). This was an incredibly impactful banned and restricted announcement, as 14 cards got the axe, affecting four different formats (typically, there might be one or two cards that get banned in a single format and "no changes" is the most common result. They also unbanned one card in a fifth format and made a rules change to close a loophole that was being exploited. I'm hard-pressed to think of another B & R announcement that affected so many cards and formats.

I have no idea when I'll play it, as I'm currently engrossed in Yakuza: Like a Dragon, but I decided $9.99 was too good to pass up for The Witcher 3 Complete Edition. I can't imagine it will ever be cheaper than that digitally (or at least not for several more years), and it's one of the most acclaimed games ever.

27. I also discovered that if you fight your enemies from the location where you first spot them, the fight isn't that easy. When I moved around to different locations in the battle space, I found the fight to be easier. The AI can't seem to handle a mobile Aloy that well. For example, in the Maker's End mission, you walk into an open area and suddenly encounter bad guys plus a gigantic Deathbringer. Many people (I'm assuming) will stay on that one spot and fire away, taking cover when necessary. However, if you move to a new location, the bad guys get very confused. You can take out various snipers on scaffolds or sometimes the Deathbringer will kill them for you. That was super easy. You can climb back up to the path you came from, and the immobile Deathbringer can't see you there. So you can kill any wandering enemies (many of whom will run to the base of the small cliff you just climbed back up, but won't climb it themselves). Then you can just move to where you see it, snipe vulnerable parts of the Deathbringer, move back into cover, and let it cool down its aggro again. But the door wouldn't open to let me move past it. Turned out there was *one* unaggro'd enemy sniper just standing around on the wall. I had to climb all over that place until I found him and killed him. Then the doors would open.

Horizon Zero Dawn (continued) 20. You meet those three idiots from the Frozen Wilds again in the main game if you go to that wall fortress (forgot the name). The place you go to talk to that reasonable commander about that evil Zaid slaver dude who kept that girl hostage. I never met that girl again anywhere in the game after we said our farewells even though she said to look her up. I did. She comes to Meridian and joins the people trying to hold the Western Ridge. She's standing next to the prison warden, and quite near where Nil ends up, if you let him live. She just told me that now that I have made the Nora open their homeland, she is looking forward to going home and seeing her brother again. But first she wants to kill the Eclipse leader, because he was the only Carja worse than Zaid during the Red Raids.

HZD: I only have the final mission left to play. It seems like I'm going to have defeat an attack on Meridian, and then defeat an attack on the spire. And everybody that I helped along the way has shown up to fight with me (which is a nice touch, actually).
There was yet another reference to the Forbidden West. I don't know if I would have realized how often they discussed the Forbidden West if I hadn't already known that this was the title of the sequel.
Reminds me of a story. I was at the site of an old fire lookout, and was pointing out some mountains to other people there. "That one is El Dorado. That one is Sahale. That one is Boston. That one in the middle is Forbidden."
"Why is that one forbidden? ... Oh, I see, you mean it is *named* Forbidden."
Anyway, back to video games. How are they going to handle the problem with progression? If they go with the usual "learn skills and get better weapons and armor" cliche, how are they going to explain that Badass Aloy who has weapons that can one-shot most machines and who has this massive array of skills and hundreds of hitpoints suddenly becomes a nube in the sequel who can't do anything? Or if they don't do that, what are they going to replace it with so that the player gets the sense of steady improvement as the game progresses?
This question is why most RPG-shooter games don't carry the main protagonist over to the sequel.

It's true that there are a few games that carry your progress from the first game into the next game, although usually they don't carry *your* progress, but rather some sort of canonical "this is how we think the character developed in the first game" progress. Like no matter how you played Lara Croft in Tomb Raider, it doesn't affect the Lara you start with in Rise Of The Tomb Raider. And that Lara still needs to start out by crafting arrows out of sticks. (The in-game explanation is that she lost all her gear in an avalanche.) I never actually finished Baldur's Gate 1, but as I understand it, Baldur's Gate 2 allows you to pick up the same characters with all their acquired items and skills. In that respect it's just like what it was based on, D&D, where you can keep the same characters from one game session to the next. Anyway, I'm not likely to play HZD Forbidden West any time soon, as it will certainly be a Playstation exclusive. But if I did, I think I would be a little annoyed if I started out with basic weapons and armor, etc.

So far seems like a good mix when it comes to fighting bad guys and the infected. Didn’t sweep through all the buildings in downtown...missed one. Thought I could go back but the gate closed.

was able to play hollow knight last night for the first time in a week. was super rusty and got beat up a little. i did find a new area and i have realized i am missing an ability.
not sure from where i am to get that ability.

The Last of Us 2
Slowly progressing through the game. Reached Seattle, was captured, escaped my captors and now on the run.
I do like the fact that there are more skirmishes, and its a mixture of bad guys and infected. In the first one during major engagements we baaically ran into either one. In the sequel I'm fighting the bad guys in the streets, and the infected are hiding in the next building over. More action = more fun, I guess.
One thing that struck me weird is the stealth kills. Ellie and Dina would grab the bad guy or infect, cover its mouth and go for the lethal stab. Ellie is immune, I get it, but wouldn't Dina be afraid of getting bitten on the hand by an infected? Small stuff, just kind of weird the programmers will do that.
