I also think the level of play is going to be tremendous on the AVP this year esp on womens side. April will not be able to pick up anyone & fly through each tournament. "Don't believe everything you hear. Lies spread quicker than the truth". Saw this on Kerri's Social Media yesterday!! Thought it was interesting.... The level goes up some because of Claes/Hughes but other than that, why would it be better than last year? Maybe because Lauren/Brooke didn't play a lot, but those two aren't exactly EY and Holly. I think we are still 2-3 years away from the US women being a real force again - beyond 1-2 teams

USC's !1 team of Claes/Hughes are clearly the best pair in NCAA Beach, but will they stick together and become Olympic teammates? I hope so, but who thinks they should split, and why?

I dont think there is a chance, but if Sara were willing to make an ironclad four year commitment, would this be a smart move for Kerri? I lean towards yes

With April already saying she is sitting out 2018 (baby), Kerri will have to start looking at options for 2018. I would think that Hughes would be on the top of that options list, if Sara would want to go with an older player with a history of a bad shoulder. But to go with that, a 4 time Olympic medalist that NBC absolutely adores and would get Sara Hughes a TON of exposure.
On the other side of this coin is an April Ross that will be 37 in June of 2019. Does she come back to the same level that we have seen her the last few years after having a child? A lot of unknowns right now.
Bottom line is for Kerri to think she has a shot at a podium in 2020 (if she qualifies), she needs to sell Hughes and keep Marcio!!

As I stated BEFORE the start of Ft. Lauderdale, not to get even FURTHER off topic, Summer Ross & Brooke Sweat are going to be a tough group to get through each tourney. Should be the right year for Summer to emerge and Brooke will solidify the backcourt and bring up A LOT more balls than any previous partner of hers. Don't sell these two short. . .

I have really enjoyed Summer's aggression the last year or so, but no one short of a prime Kerri Walsh or Xue is winning anything with Brooke. She is basically an extremely poor man's Heather Barnsley. If they had been carpet bombed by one good team in Fort Lauderdale you could overlook it but they played two top teams and were not competitive in either match

I'm sure Walsh has made the commitment to April for 2017. However, after this season, I don't see how she doesn't go with Hughes. Hughes reminds me a lot of May and I think Hughes would have a hard time justifying NOT going with Kerri toward 2020.

More like April made a commitment to Kerri for 2017, but still, fair enough. At any rate, there are several variables in play over the few years: injury history, advancing age, potential maternity leave etc. But as it stands right now, April Ross is the best player in America - and she happens to be an excellent blocker, four years younger than Kerri, and doesn't have a bum shoulder. By 2020, it's more likely April will still be all of those things than it is a 40-something Walsh is still producing at a peak level. My point being that if we're talking specifically about a run to the 2020 Olympics, April holds better cards than Kerri, so to speak. However, this is where all the variables come into play - Does April have any interest in becoming a primary blocker (bringing in Hughes to play behind her)? Would Hughes rather stick with Claes and work her way up (certainly plausible)? Will Kerri's right arm literally fall off? Will Skynet go fully sentient in 2019, making all of this moot? And so on.

I think Claes and Hewes will stick together and make a run for the next Olympic Games. Sure, there will be temptation for one to split away, but that is a short term decision. If April and Kerri are in the next games, it will probably be their last, and while either/both could medal, gold is doubtful. Time takes a toll on every body, and while a player knows what to do in most every situation, getting there to do is becomes harder and harder.

So if Walsh approached Hughes, you really think she'd let the opportunity to play with the most decorated beach Olympian that the United States has produced pass her by?

Kerri most likely has her pick, but what choices could SH mill over?
Continue with Claes & create their own story.?
Say yes to KW?
Pursue April?
Hold out for a narrow chance at 2020 with Plummer. Only works if USAV goes tryout/trials v. FIVB points.
Hold a tryout to identify the next big thing?
