She just told Bill Walton on ESPN that she's going for gold.

The Olympics are a %*$#ty tournament with a weak field that ruin the two years leading up to them. Is it possible to get a 30 second break before we have to start thinking of qualification again? Oh and Kerri is really old

The Olympics are a %*$#ty tournament It also has the best TV coverage in countries where BVB isn't so popular, so I shan't complain. Oh and Kerri is really old It's Ok, there's nothing in the rule book that says zimmer frames aren't allowed. BVBfan ludwig-walkenhorst.com

I think Walsh should pick up Hughes after NCAA is over for her 2020 run.

There seems to be an underlying tone that April & Kerri are not on the same page anymore.
April played amazing in Rio while Kerri shanked pass after pass to miss their golden opportunity.
KW also seems pitted against the AVP leaving April without a domestic partner.
Meanwhile no promotor on the domestic side has figured out a living wage prize money distribution formula that can attract stellar athletes.
It will be the "next generation" of beach players that help revive and build this sport. The vibe at Manhattan yesterday rang the bell of the future.
The college game will help usher in a bright future, hopefully by 2020 as every other country goes young while the USA desperately holds out for a 40+ year old Olympian.
We all know KW has been a phenomenal player but it's time to pass the torch and not hold the system back by plugging up the flow of new talent for 2020, imho.

For all of us land locked not in the know people......................what is the vibe at manhattan mean? Walsh will not qualify for 2020.

Sorry to be vague. I had attended the UCLA - East meets West college event Sat, hosted by the CBVA at the Manhattan Beach pier.
Great event, excellent volleyball at a higher level than seen in the past 5 years of the college sand/beach game.
In the next 3-4 years it will be some of these budding players that will replace KW, AR and the rest of the 90/2000's group of pro beach players.

People do not seem to realize that Walsh/ross are not locks to even qualify for 2020 Tokyo..................the USA has a dozen players who will be the mix for 2 team spots....................4 players total.

System may change but under current system they have a huge leg up. Their route to the Olympics is much easier than Summer Ross' for example. If they are healthy they will qualify, but Kerr was too old to win last year, thats not changing

I am not a gold medal olympian like Kerri but if she wants to do it... heck let it be... she knows what she needs to do to get there... I do miss the Kerri Walsh and Misty May duo... oh well life goes on...

There seems to be an underlying tone that April & Kerri are not on the same page anymore. **They seemed to be on the same page in Ft. Lauderdale. Any facts to support this? I don't think April can have another year like the 2015 & 2016 years she had. She was awesome. April played amazing in Rio while Kerri shanked pass after pass to miss their golden opportunity. **Yes, Kerri shanked some passes in the Semis, but Ross also had opportunities to make digs that she failed to make...That match was a team effort. Let me add, Kerri was the better player between the 2 the first 5 matches in RIO. KW also seems pitted against the AVP leaving April without a domestic partner. **i have also heard that Kerri will not be playing on the AVP this year. Can anyone else confirm this. They couldn't even get her to AVP media days. Meanwhile no promotor on the domestic side has figured out a living wage prize money distribution formula that can attract stellar athletes. **AVP will not survive** It will be the "next generation" of beach players that help revive and build this sport. The vibe at Manhattan yesterday rang the bell of the future. **This sport has barely survived with Walsh & Treanor....Once Walsh bows out, better hope the next generation can bring it. USA Beach Volleyball & fans have gotten spoiled by the dominance of Misty & Kerri that it will be hard to generate that type of hype again in the US. The college game will help usher in a bright future, hopefully by 2020 as every other country goes young while the USA desperately holds out for a 40+ year old Olympian. **Kerri Walsh can still play & dominate this game with the right partner. Ross isn't the right partner in this stage of Kerri's career. We all know KW has been a phenomenal player but it's time to pass the torch and not hold the system back by plugging up the flow of new talent for 2020, imho. **i believe if these young players can consistently get to Walsh's level in the next three years, Kerri will be more than happy to have the USA send a better team to Toyko. But if they are not close to her level, I would not step aside for them if I were her. These are just my opinions also.

Good points all around. If anyone can go for Gold in Tokyo, its Kerri beyond a doubt. That said, 2020 is a long way away. Also, just throwing my two cents in: ever since the Bronze in Rio, I think other teams, especially Brazilian ones, seem to sense an opportunity, perhaps seeing a few cracks in Kerri's game. Especially in Fort Lauderdale: Kerri and April had that match a couple of times against Agatha and Eduarda, yet in the end couldn't put it away (the fact that she lost AGAIN to Agatha probably wasn't lost to either of them) Again though, it was an unusually early tournament in the season, and this IS Kerri Walsh Jennings we're talking about. That said, and as others have pointed out, its the post Tokyo landscape that may be the most concerning. Its not unreasonable to guess that 2020 will be it for Kerri, if not career wise than definitely Olympic wise. And sure, the AVP now has a development system/ pipeline on the Women's side (lets not talk about the Men's......), yet unless the (unrealistic) happens and someone comes up the ranks IMMEDIATELY and morphs into the "next Kerri Walsh Jennings", then the AVP will have some problems. It simply can't afford to lose ANY sort of interest in the sport: it will be a blow I don't think it can really absorb as of now.
