I love gossip. I heard from a friend that was sitting next to a person at an AVP event that Kerri Walsh was colluding with the Russians.
It's good stuff.. addicting.

A couple of friends were sitting in stadium on Friday watching a match. A couple with their two young daughters were sitting near my two friends. Brittany was sitting a few rows down from them with a couple of other Ladies. One of the girls yelled to Britt if she could get an autograph. Britt was happy to oblige. The girls went and she signed one of their volleyballs and one girl told Britt that she she was a great player. She said she wished that Kerri was playing too so she could get her autograph on the ball too. Britt told the girl not to expect Kerri back on the AVP. That this tour was for classy players & Kerri stance with the AVP was selfish. Was loud enough that many around them heard the exchange. The Girls were visibly upset. It went as far as the girls Dad confronting Britt after the match was over and told her that no matter what her opinion of Kerri or the situation was, it was not her place to express them to the girls. My Friends heard the whole thing... My opinion of Hochever has changed immensely after I heard this. Talk about classless. Yes Mr. sun...If this is one of your new faces of the AVP on the women's side, please go back to the drawing board. I realize this was not the nicest thing but imagining Brittany saying this to some 5 year olds in an "I'm talking slowly to little kids" voice made me smile

Why would Nicole play? $$$$ A couple of reasons....Nicole needs points...Kerri already has points....Nicole expects Kerri to be back in 2018 based on past history....What better way to start building points than with someone like Emily who she has the potential to do well with until & if Kerri returns. A few extra points now won't help much if she doesn't keep playing with someone else in the meantime. Seems like a longshot that Kerri will be playing much in 2018, especially with reduced events. I wouldn't expect Nicole and Em to win enough money in their first event to cover much more than their expenses. But maybe Nicole has decided to start playing full time again, with or without Kerri.

It seems very sloppy journalism to include Brittany's quotes about "no one is bigger than the sport" and "it hurts my heart that there are selfish endeavors" in an article where the WSOVB is being promoted by Kerri (and apparently the author) without explaining that Brittany is almost certainly referring to Kerri in a negative way.

Well, they are guaranteed splitting 3.4K, so with USAV covering expenses It's not too bad of a week's worth of work. If you get out of Pool (17th), it's the same as taking a 3rd in the AVP $$ wise. Here is the payouts: Prize Money Per Team In USD 1st x 1 60,000 2nd x 1 45,000 3rd x 1 35,000 4th x 1 28,000 5th x 4 18,000 9th x 8 11,000 17th x 16 7,000 33rd x 4 4,800 37th X 12 3,400

I took the article to be about the "bad spot the sport is in right now" His opening point being, 5 years ago this was the best event outside of the Olympics, but now, not so much. "When she said it, I believed her because it was true at the time. However, it wasn’t true this year. Even though it could be again in the future. Last weekend, sparse crowds took in the exhibition action after five years of massive crowds cheering on international FIVB competition. Beach volleyball contracts and scheduling seem to be working against each other.""

Em Day said she had to use 30,000 frequent flyer miles to book her trip to Vienna. That's probably $1000 in value right there. So it doesn't sound like USAV is paying for travel expenses.

Im not sure how the first clause relates to the second. Did "Beach volleyball contracts and scheduling" cause the Long Beach event to be poorly attended.
Was that true? I hadn't seen anything saying that Long Beach wasn't as successful as last year. If it was it could also be the stupid format

This goes back to the question of how individual points affect team points? For example, gibb/taylor don't somehow have extra points because of their previous fivb partnership and results. They are ranked according to team finishes. This seems like purely money move for Branagh which you can't blame her. Unless day would leave hochevar for Branagh if kerri doesn't come back, which I don't think she would.

And the last few paragraphs are suggesting that the WSOBV can bring key players together where the AVP and FIVB have failed. It also cites the WSOBV as being "dedicated to the future of the sport with AAU Junior National competition and coaching clinics all weekend." But it also throws in that Phil quote about sleeping in your own bed, and I'll bet he didn't mean for that to be necessarily used in support of the WSOVB. It's a lot easier to schedule 1 WSOVB event around the FIVB schedule than 8+ AVP events.

In her mind, she was prepared to go the whole season, now she should just go back to the couch? Especially after reaching the medal round last week. That isn't what competitors do. I think her and Emily have a great shot at getting out of pool.

The points would be irrelevant for her and Kerri's partnership. Yes she has worked hard and has earned the opportunity.
