I wonder how Jake's career would have looked if he were German or Dutch etc. Really from any good VB country where he wouldn't spend his career playing with the best defender Phil didn't want. I don't think it would have looked much different. I think Jake has had good partners in his career. In my opinion Jake is a very very good player but he doesn't have that special something that you need to beat the best teams when it counts. Almost all of Jake's FIVB wins have been big events, I know the China one, plus Rome, Gstaad, St. Petersburg were all Grand Slams. Mexico was not but he beat Emmanuel/Ricardo to win it

With Stein, no question. With Sean, in the beginning yes, then Sean had the one great year, where he was one of the best defenders in the world. With Casey definitely, until maybe last year. Casey has never been that impressive to me. Solid and consistent, but weak defensively and often seemed to play scared on the FIVB as opposed to the aggression he often showed on the AVP

I thought Sean was playing with an inferior partner (highest level) in Larry Witt and thought he was the better player through 2010. I thought Casey was the best siding out player for about 4 years as well. Maybe 2011-2015.

A bit inconsistent at times but he clearly has a lot of potential. I don't think he's going to play much longer with Carambula. In Vienna the two of them looked like they're not getting a long with each other very well anymore. Carambula even mentioned something in an Interview.
