I really think that Plummer is one of the 3 frontrunners for the NPOY. Hope she makes history and win it on her Sophomore season! Someone from the Big will get POY because always. That's sorta weak. They don't always get it; but when they do, typically they deserve it.

I think Deluzio got robbed for FOY. I know I am biased but watching them side by side my eye saw better sets from her than McLaughlin. I also think Deluzio spread the ball better. Plus Colorado finished higher and won the head to head 2-0. Oh well I guess everyone else saw something else. Deluzio and McLaughlin was a close call, for sure. Both were great this year. I would have been fine with either one getting it.

Worth noting, perhaps, that a Pac-12 player has won it five of the last seven years. As for Cal, you could make a case for Dempi as HM and definitely Mirkovic as All-Frosh, but when you finish 11th, you can't expect much love.

As a Stanford fan, I frankly think Alade had a better year than Fitzmorris. At the very least their numbers were very comparable. Very similar in blocking with Alade hitting for a higher % and Fitz getting more kills.
Fitz had a bigger reputation going into the season and that might have made the difference. But that isn't the right way to think about it......

Keep in mind that Fitz is currently a more versatile middle than Alade, as she can hit a slide. Thus, she plays more rotations with Jenna in front row, only two front row hitters.

There were only 4 middles on the team- this is a very deep conference and Stanford's entire starting lineup got some sort of recognition, so it's hard to really gripe about Alade. I do hope she recognizes how much fans appreciate what she did this year.

But that isn't the right way to think about it...... Alade had a breakout year, I agree. The major difference is that Alade blocks with 6'8" Lutz and 6'6" Plummer by her... while Fitz blocks with 6'1" Gray and 6'0" McClure and had the same numbers. You can't tell me Alade hitting next to Plummer and Lutz doesn't do wonders for her ability to terminate against a single block either, vs. Fitz having to go behind vs. a double block every single time, which I'd argue is one of her weakest attacks. Personally, the Colorado match really convinced me why Fitz is so critical to Stanford's success. She's out for a match, they have to change the lineup accordingly, and all hell breaks loose.. Suddenly they're going to five with a team they should have beaten in three. She's a workhorse for that team, and consistently shows up in the big matches when her team needs her. I may be a little biased though, I'm a big fan of the Tim Duncan-style players. Tami shows the big emotion, but Fitz gets the job done without having to do the big show afterwards. That kind of crazy emotion has never really screamed 'Stanford' for me.

Also, wasn't aware that Fitz had to go against a double block every time. I guess that means that that Plummer or McClure has a single block every time. Cool.

That's one rotation with Lutz and McClure, one with McClure and Gray, and one rotation with Plummer and Gray. That would be two with McClure (a weaker blocker than Plummer) and two with Gray (also a weaker blocker than Lutz). I still see Alade as having the easier draw out of the two middles. That's not at all what I was saying. Fitz is hitting against a double block on the slide while is Alade taking swings against a single block on the 1's.. Traditionally, 1's in front of the setter are so quick that it's a 1 on 1 swing against the middle blocker, while slides are hit against both a middle blocker and the outside blocker. Are there exceptions to that rule? Of course, some teams choose to double on the 1's or leave the slide to one blocker, but that's not usually the case. That being said, McClure does have quite a few 1-on-1 opportunities due to Fitz running the slide.

But that isn't the right way to think about it...... At the risk of stating the obvious, numbers don't tell the whole story. Both are superb players who are a joy to watch. To my eye, Fitz is a distinctly better blocker. She is more likely to be in the right position--Alade is more often way off the net when trying to close. Fitz also appears to read hitters better--one example was on a block against a Utah backrow attack last week. I have seen this before, where she reads the hitter's likely shot location and reaches to the correct place. I don't notice that kind of reaction as frequently from Alade. On offense, Alade (and Gray) developed a fantastic quick attack this year--perhaps better than Fitz. However, having an effective slide is a big deal for a middle and Fitz is really good at that. Overall, I think it is reasonable to rate Fitz above Alade.

Wholly agree w/volleylearner on most of their points; that being said, after Inky's graduation, MB was a Huge question mark comin' into this season - Alade's been a GODSEND.

Also..... the team selections both say 2016 on them. Jesus Christ, did no one proofread??? I think they use interns As someone who has interned many times, you don't automatically forget how to read/proof/spell when you're an intern.

Yes, she can read situations and hitters better. And yes, she can hit a slide, which is crucial. I would also rate Fitz above Tami. But don't short change Alade. Best vertical on team: Alade. Quicker laterally. And Alade has 1.43 blocks per set, compared to Fitz's 1.46. So I would say that both are excellent blockers. Fitz is better this year than last, and will likely be better next year as well. Tami is on an even higher learning curve; so I can't wait to see what she brings next year, possibly even a slide.

That was certainly not my intent. Alade is a very good blocker, but my impression is that Fitz is better and I explained why I think that. Of course Alade has improved a lot since last year, and of course she is an important contributor to the team. It is certainly possible that Alade will become as good or better than Fitz in the future. I was not considering future development in my comment.
