Anyone who knows Gia knows this is a great fit! Competitive program with a great setter and many other weapons to go to, Great coaching staff, Christian school, great business school, family in Texas, etc. Christian School? As a Christian I am very conflicted when being associated in any way with Baylor and how they have handled numerous situations in their Athletic Dept! Giving them that label only gives non-believers ammunition with cries of hypocrisy...and they’d be right! Murder, rapes, assaults & all covered up in the name of wins & money! Yeah, let’s leave Christian school off the description I go to Baylor and I am very disappointed in the way they handle the situations too but our knee President has her head screwed on right and will make sure that this doesn’t happen again and if it does she handle it accordingly

I agree. She definitely sold herself short imo Anyone who knows Gia knows this is a great fit! Competitive program with a great setter and many other weapons to go to, Great coaching staff, Christian school, great business school, family in Texas, etc. Also she’ll have a familiar face in Daria Richards who she played club ball with. .

Yeah, let’s leave Christian school off the description If you ask any of the Baylor volleyball players what their favorite thing about being a part of that team, they will most definitely say the connection through faith. That’s what made the team chemistry so strong is the common thing they held with their love for God. They literally had a 45 minute worship session right before the NCAA selection show if that says anything. While some awful things did happen at Baylor in the past few years, those people involved are GONE. What’s left are the wonderful students that make up the great caring, Christian community here in Waco.

That’s awesome...and thankfully that goes on at many many schools and teams throughout the country! Most of the time at state funded universities that aren’t allowed to advertise any faith connection! I’m glad there are schools (and communities) in this country that are allowed to advertise their faith and their faith association. I also prayerfully hope that Baylor (and Baylor Athletics) takes that association more seriously going forward.

I'm sure that not all people/institution that claim to be Christian are doing a perfect job at living up to the title. We all fall short...what I do know is that the coaching staff and most on the team are faithful servants and I'm sure that's what attracted Gia to the program and school.

Oh brother - let's not get legalistic! There is not one perfect institution/person, etc. I'm sure Gia has a good head on her shoulder and knows that just because someone says they are Christian doesn't mean they are perfect. The volleyball staff and team are what she is most concerned about. Not legalistic! You used faith based school as one of 4 reasons it was a good fit. I was simply pointing out an obvious conflict that makes that hypocritical to the rest of the world. Accepting those missteps and working hard to do a much better job not only shows the world their human falability but also a “Christian School’s” faith based drive and calling. As reported, It seems that Baylor is on that better path when it comes to their Athletics programs.

My point was there are many bible studies and faith based services that teams and players do that play at state funded universities. They do it consistently and prayerfully but obvsiouly are not allowed to advertise that. Baylor, being a private school, has no such restriction and is allowed to advertise their faith association. Unfortunately, the previous coaches, athletic administrators, and President did not take that association seriously!

So, for those in the know, did she consider/visit Baylor before committing to Maryland while in high school?
There's a difference between "family in Texas" and "family in Waco, TX". Like in other states, not all areas are the same just because they are within the state borders.

I'm going to do my best to separate how I feel about the school with how I feel about the volleyball program. I know someone first hand who has been on the receiving end of the University trying to sweep sexual harassment/assualt under the rug and I do hope that new leadership will right their ship. I think Baylor's program is on the rise and that's in large part to the new coach and the team's chemistry. Happy for Baylor volleyball and Gia.

Have you ever been to Michigan?!?!?! Romeo is not exactly a suburb of Detroit - it is much farther North. uh ya, I have actually. And Romeo is a suburb and it's NOT rural by ANY stretch. You are just flat out WRONG. There's NOBODY that lives in metro Detroit that would consider Romeo a rural community. It's part of metro Detroit. It isn't rural, at all. It isn't part of metro Detroit.

Like in other states, not all areas are the same just because the are within the state borders. No - she was focused on the Big 10. Since she would have had to sit out a year, she focused on schools outside of the Big 10. Her family is 2.5 hours away but close enough to go to some games and for her to visit on down time.

Rural Michigan? Lol...since when is a northern suburb of Detroit rural? Have you ever been to Michigan?!?!?! Romeo is not exactly a suburb of Detroit - it is much farther North. I think 30 years ago you could argue that Romeo was rural, but nowadays not so much. Most of the orchards are gone and the population has continued to boom around it. The school district is relatively small, especially compared to their neighbors, but they do play Class A volleyball and Gia played for a very suburban club team. Regardless, I wish her the best in her new home. I'm still disappointed for her that she invested so much in Aird only to see him split. But hopefully this is a blessing in the end and she thrives at Baylor. She is a good kid with outstanding talent and I hope she gets the chance to fully shine.

It seemed like you were inferring that "most times state funded schools", you were talking about Baylor being state funded, but different in that they were bringing faith into education.
