A big time player in Payton Caffrey (West Virginia) is transferring She would look good in orange and blue and play for an up and coming team lead by Coach Tamas. She could definitely make an above average Illini team a great team. Go B1G

A big time player in Payton Caffrey (West Virginia) is transferring She could slide into that OH2 with Thayer Hall and Florida looks really solid at the pins next year Really nice player, but not a Top 10 program type. Just my opinion. Thought WVU was a great fit.

Really? Payton had some injury struggles this year, but had a monster freshman year. I think Payton would start on most top 25 teams, in some form. At the minimal as a serving specialist / DS. If Payton's looking at home state - Miami-FL, Florida, UCF, and FSU could all really use her.

If she was a Florida type of athlete, don’t you think they would’ve gone after her in the first place? Now, maybe those other schools you mentioned would be a nice landing spot. And i think she’d help them. But I think Florida has set the bar where they want it and where it belongs for that program. So could she have a DS/serving specialist (like you mentioned) role at UF? For sure. I’m sure they’d love to have her in the gym. I’m talking about as a starting outside for a top 10 program. Just not that level of a player. I’d really like to see what her numbers were against Top 25 competition. If someone can produce those and they’re on par with other starting outsides at Top 10-15 programs (assuming UF falls a little next year losing that strong senior class), then I will gladly eat crow. Wouldn’t be the first time for me.

Wouldn’t be the first time for me. Caffrey was underrated coming out of high school, only offered scholarships to two places (both out of state). It's hard to compare her production at a non-top 25 school to a top 25 school for many reasons. She was to go-to hitter on a team that struggled in a tough conference. Her numbers does not say all about her performance as trojansc mentioned, she was dealing with injuries. Also you can't compare her to another player when it is a team sport as every other player's skills dictates that. West Virginia was not known for great passing and setting so that resulted in Caffrey getting all the out-of-system swings, being targeted all the time, and scouted the most. I think her competitive attitude and skills will be needed for a lot of schools looking for a good player, including Top 25 teams.

Irony about the previous post is that Caffrey is exactly what UF was missing. Their weakness was the other OH besides Snyder. She would have been an excellent OH2 and she would get a ton of open looks. She has the all around game and is not just a one dimensional hitter. Look at what she did against KU in Lawrence.
