I think both sides of this discussion are right. Very good, competitive player that exceeded expectations at WVA and could help any program. But Top 15 she’s probably a role player and that’s not her style. This is one of the biproducts of early, lazy recruiting. Caffrey probably didn’t check some of the recruiting technical boxes, and most of her club career played down from her HS age group (on a dominant club team). That probably even made it harder for recruiters to have time to pick up on her intangibles. But at 14/15 the recruiting circles decided she wasn’t tall enough, didn’t have the reach or the ups. So all Payton did was figure out a way with a quick armswing, improved ups and a competitive focus how to terminate points. That looks like it continued in the Big12. Good for her!
And maybe she just wants to be closer to home. FSU, UCF, Clemson, etc. Or reunited with club teammates at GT, South Caro, FGCU, etc.

Really? Payton had some injury struggles this year, but had a monster freshman year. I think Payton would start on most top 25 teams, in some form. At the minimal as a serving specialist / DS. If Payton's looking at home state - Miami-FL, Florida, UCF, and FSU could all really use her. Just my opinion, but yes, really. If she was a Florida type of athlete, don’t you think they would’ve gone after her in the first place? Now, maybe those other schools you mentioned would be a nice landing spot. And i think she’d help them. But I think Florida has set the bar where they want it and where it belongs for that program. So could she have a DS/serving specialist (like you mentioned) role at UF? For sure. I’m sure they’d love to have her in the gym. I’m talking about as a starting outside for a top 10 program. Just not that level of a player. I’d really like to see what her numbers were against Top 25 competition. If someone can produce those and they’re on par with other starting outsides at Top 10-15 programs (assuming UF falls a little next year losing that strong senior class), then I will gladly eat crow. Wouldn’t be the first time for me. I mean, what are Florida's L2s stats against Top 25 competition? At some point, it's about need/fit rather than "she's not good enough for Top 15"

Gia Milana is transferring from Maryland after Aird bailed on her. Rumor was that there was a B1G kid on the move. The anonymity made it seem like she hadn’t gotten her release yet though. So this may be it or there could be another. Also, as a side note, I’m not a fan that we keep calling it “bailing”. Like we don’t all know that most coaches leave for greener pastures at some point. Now, if he broke some big promise that I’m not aware of that he would never leave, then I retract my statement.

Cheyenne Huskey is transferring from Florida for personal reasons. Surprising news after Florida's successful tournament run. Maybe she wants to set all around instead of being utilized only in the front row.

Surprising news after Florida's successful tournament run. Maybe she wants to set all around instead of being utilized only in the front row. I think Texas has found their replacement for Shook That would be interesting since Riley Fisbeck and her were on same club team when really young and in same high school district. I even thought Riley got setter of the district but I might be mistaken

I think both sides of this discussion are right. Very good, competitive player that exceeded expectations at WVA and could help any program. But Top 15 she’s probably a role player and that’s not her style. A little confused by this. If that's true, why is she leaving WVU? They have never shyed away from making her the top option. I actually think she stays in a P5 school.

I actually think she stays in a P5 school. I’m not sure what the confusion is. I said Top 15 not P5. Of course she can be a star at most P5 programs. She’s proven that. I’m a big fan of hers. My point was that I fell between both of the OP’s theories. She could be an asset anywhere and a go to star most places but as you move into the Top 15 programs (previous posters demarcation line...not mine) her height could possibly relegate her to a role player like serving specialist, OH3, etc. And having watched her play with a very competitive spirit, I don’t think a role option would fit her style. Again, just an opinion and I would root hard for her to prove me wrong and start OH1 at Nebraska next year.
