Orie will probably never play a significant role at UT. It's a shame. Orie is a quality individual. She actually played quite a bit her 2016 freshman season with Chiaka redshirting, and Yaazie not yet in the middle blocker rotation. For whatever reason, it just hasn't come together for her on the court. No one can argue, though, that she should have been in the starting lineup in 2017. Who would you have put her in front of in the starting lineup? From the times she has come in it seems she is lacking on offense and is a bit slow to close the block, but she is obviously a gifted athlete.

I cannot figure out what the issue is with Orie's progression. I had such high hopes for her for 2016 not so much because of her high recruiting ranking, but based on the reports of how she performed one summer with USA volleyball. She won the best MB award over teammates such as Alhassan (and Audrianna Fitzmorris, although Fitz might have been playing Opposite).
From her play in 2016, I didn't see the speed, explosiveness, or power I was expecting. I thought she was going to be similar to one of my all-time favorite Longhorn middles, Leticia Armstrong.

I meant that she was not good enough to be a starter above Chiaka or Morgan in 2017.

Unless your a coach at UT, I don't think anyone here can really comment on Orie's progression. She hasn't played enough in the last two years to get a large enough sample. If she wants to play, she should transfer.

I haven't gone digging through the archives to get the exact quote, but more than one UT coach said to the effect of "She's a great athlete, she just needs better coaching which we will work with her on". I was surprised to see that coming from two sources in publications because that's a big backhanded slap at her MO coaches. That said, the only extended time I've seen her play were the spring games of her freshman and sophmore years. I could see a definite improvement in her blocking, but not spectacular blocking. As for her hitting, about the same.

I saw her play several times in club ball and she could do things others could not because of her athleticism not her vball skill or IQ. She was an uber athlete project that unfortunately has not had the needed court time to blossom.

Remember when Ebony didn't make the short trip down to UTSA for a game? People were muttering, "Oh, well it's obvious she's sulking because Yaz is taking over her spot" ebbsnwanebu.wordpress.com/2018/01/06/surviving-monsters/#more-200And to come out and say it: Makes me ponder that I'm just as guilty and shouldn't diss on our DS's by name. Maybe just say, "Our passing sucks" and leave their names out of it.

I know most peoples intentions on this board arent to hurt these girls and sometimes were just fustrated, but we really so have to think twice before posting some things. These girls are trying their hardest and are still human beings

I am glad that a few eyes are opening to the weight that this chat site carries...and the heavy weight with which it can burden an otherwise healthy young woman. It will probably be temporary, but any respite is good I think. That whole Lexi Sun thread bothers me to no end. I don’t understand why it is still active.

With Kentucky losing both their middles and the one that just transferred to OSU, do you think she would try transferring there?

Most any high school or college athlete that has been worth a hoot or a holler would not be surprised to learn that this forum is read by many current players of the game. All of the kids on the teams I was on collected the written press about themselves. We read it all. We all have egos.
What Ebony wrote is spot on. "just stay off." This is not the press! It's modern social media that can be insensitive, often powered by anonymity.
Every season ticket holder that I speak with is aware of this forum. The true VB fans love their team and crave information. There is little satisfaction through the local press. So, volley talk here we are, trying to figure it all out. Surprise, Austin is not really a volleyball town. Not yet.

I was still subscribing during the spiral downward and gave up when they started sub-contracting some of their articles - they used the byline of a Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reporter to give a summation of a Longhorn HOME GAME.
