West Coast and Selection Show Hawaii head coach Jeff Hall: "It was expected in that we thought we’d either be a 2 or a 3 seed. We’re in and that’s all that matters for us. I’m disappointed that they gave (the second at-large) to an East Coast team. It’s not right. Again, leave it to a committee and they’re going to find a way to make it work for whatever their agenda is. The strength was on the West Coast this season by a long shot." - staradvertiser.com ----- Hawaii team hit the road for Alabama, ahead of this weekend's NCAA Championship www.khon2.com/sports/local-sports/beach-bows-are-bama-bound-for-ncaa-championship-tournament/1152385448Hawaii head coach Jeff Hall: "It's a great opportunity to be in the position we're in and to possibly win a national championship for the school, for the state, it would be awesome."

Florida International and Selection Show Video: CBS Miami FIU junior Margherita Bianchin: - We were actually at the top of the garage, doing a barbecue and stuff. We were so scared when the poll came out. Then we heard our name and I threw a shoe. Mike Cugno, CBS4: Why did you throw a shoe? - I don't know. I was happy, was like yeah and throw my shoe. Florida International makes history by qualifying for NCAA Championship miami.cbslocal.com/2018/05/01/fiu-beach-volleyball-ncaa-tournamentFIU head coach Rita Buck-Crockett: "I was shaking like crazy and it said UCLA is the number one seed and they will be playing... And my computer buffered... I didnt know! Everybody else knew but me... And I cant get it on it wont work. So my director of OPS called and he's like hey coach so we are still alive and I like what does that mean? What does that mean??? And he said what do you mean what does that mean? And I go did we make it? And he goes Yes! So I ran outside and I just go YEEEEEEES! I celebrated on my own."

Top-seeded UCLA prepares for NCAA Championship dailybruin.com/2018/05/02/top-seeded-beach-volleyball-prepares-for-ncaa-championshipUCLA twins Nicole and Megan McNamara, who have won their last 24 of 26 matches on court one, attributed their success to first-year volunteer assistant coach Jeff Alzina. "He brings out our most aggressive style, and it’s great because before games he’ll just totally pump us up," said Megan McNamara. "We are playing better volleyball in the wind and we’re able to close out tight matches. The culture that they have coached and created has been really effective for us this year." ----- UCLA junior Nicole McNamara: "Just arrived in Gulf Shores for the National Championships! Friday couldn’t come soon enough!" http://instagram.com/p/BiQSZrDhN0R ----- Despite record season, Stetson misses out on NCAA Tournament www.news-journalonline.com/sports/20180430/despite-record-season-stetson-beach-volleyball-misses-out-on-ncaa-tournament"It’s pretty cutthroat. There are a lot of good teams that didn’t get into the tournament," said Stetson head coach Kristina Hernandez, who was named the ASUN’s Coach of the Year for the third time in her career. "We didn’t have any bad losses this year, which was good, but we also didn’t beat anybody that was ranked higher than us."

Stetson was done after week #2 of season due to crappy scheduling. They only played 1 team of note after this point (LSU loss). While I understand they must play some weak ASUN teams in conference, their coach decided to schedule a bunch of other teams that could not help them earn a bid: 6 NCAA D2 1 NAIA 1 NJCAA Juco For their trip out West they played Colorado Mesa, Arizona, Cal, and Arizona State NCAA Beach Week 2 recap Mar 4, 2018 at 9:50pm Post by trollhunter on Mar 4, 2018 at 9:50pm NCAA BEACH WEEK 2 RECAP *EAST* STETSON 3-5 bid chance is gone already. They will get some easy wins, but even if they beat LSU and Tulane later, they cannot catch the other teams above. Cupcake schedule rest of the way.

Hawaii gears up for the 2018 NCAA Championship hawaiiathletics.com/news/2018/5/1/womens-beach-volleyball-sandbows-gear-up-for-the-2018-ncaa-beach-volleyball-championship.aspxKa'iwi Schucht senior reflections ----- LBSU gets snubbed from NCAA Championship www.daily49er.com/sports/2018/05/01/beach-volleyball-gets-snubbed-from-ncaa-championshipDaily49er.com: "For a team that never dropped below the seventh spot in the nation, it was baffling that the team did not advance to the tournament. Long Beach finished the season 26-8, with its only losses coming from top five ranked teams, most being close losses. The team proved themselves worthy of playing among the best in the sport, beating No. 4 Cal Poly twice in the Big West Tournament. " LBSU head coach Mike Campbell: "It’s not fair, but it’s the way it is. We’re not in control of it, it’s the committee that makes the decision. It’s just disappointing and confusing being ranked in the top all year and moving our way up, improving all year…in the end it came down to us and LSU. " Daily49er.com: "For now, the damage has been done and Long Beach State will have to wait another year before getting the chance to make a run for a championship. Let’s hope the NCAA can make the right decision next season."

No NCAA BV program should take LBSU snub lightly . Situation like this can happen to any small college that invested $ , got enough "W " and still not make it to the "big dance". LB ,more than anyone else, deserves to be in Bama on the weekend. My heart goes out to you. Cheers?

That schedule seemed to support working towards conference champions getting an automatic bid which would have worked out for them if that switch in the selection process was made. The ASUN conference is expanding by 3 more teams ( asunsports.org/sports/beachvball/2017-18/releases/20180417etne44), but none of the new teams are strong. It will be interesting to see whether schools continue to find it useful to be in a weaker conference or not if the selection committee continues to skirt around the move towards granting automatic bids for conference champions like so many other NCAA sports do.

Good observation. Many people were expecting automatic conference bids this season, not sure when NCAA told them it wasn't happening. It was probably too late to change the schedule much. My guess is that NCAA will continue with same bids and format until they expand to 10-12 teams, and include automatic conference winners at that time. If anyone hears otherwise please share. P.S. You are too kind. A couple of those new ASUN teams are downright bad. But perhaps they will improve now that they are committed to a conference.
