Excited for this! Cal Poly has already played a few tournaments and apparently looking very good (not including their indoor players).

Isn’t time for the 2019 thread? Size is coming I heard Hellvig 6’2 will play beach also and Canadian Jaime Santer is 6’1. I was wondering if she was going to be able to play beach. She plays on the Swedish National team (or junior national team) I believe?

Mentioned in the other thread, but Monkhouse transferred to play beach at UCLA.

Unfortunately, she never really warmed up to Hawai'i so it is better she is not here. She wants to be the best and thinks she will get there at UCLA. For her sake, hopefully she is right and made a good decision for herself!
Hawai'i really needs one to two more impact players to be in the top teams in the country. Our depth is just not there this season. UCLA and USC are stacked. Cal Poly is going to be really tough this season in Big West play as well.
I like some of the newcomers (Scoles and Loker) but will it be enough to compete this year? Maglio coming back is huge and will help us from becoming a lower tiered team. The pairings will be crucial and fingers still crossed for a transfer. Too bad Hellvig isn't available this year!

Wow that’s unfortunate. Counting now 3 athletes who transferred from Hawaii to UCLA (Matautia/Rattray).

Basketball player Noah Allen, football player Jeremy Castro and beach volleyball Laurel Weaver. Sometimes cannot help if someone want to leave.

Wow that’s unfortunate. Counting now 3 athletes who transferred from Hawaii to UCLA (Matautia/Rattray). Rattray would have been behind Parapunov for couple more years. Logical for him to find greener pastures. Matautia wanted a different outlook (and couldn't stand Wade). Monkhouse is the one that got away. Too bad she couldn't stick it out. With UCLA stacked with 20+ on their roster makes me wonder how happy will all their star recruits be standing on the sidelines WATCHING instead of playing.

Laurel Weaver turned out to be a good get for UH. She was mainly a 5 or 6 flight player at UCLA and with new prospects coming in the following year, there was no guarantee she would get more playing time. I think it is great to have players like Laurel who came from UCLA and were dissatisfied. Laurel had the drive to prove that she deserved the playing time, she worked extremely hard and was given the opportunity at UH. I hope we get more UCLA transfers like Laurel.

Agree....I hope Laurel can help the program bring some talent in. Her move not only paid off volleyball wise but Laurel found her soulmate here and seems to be having a good life. Sometimes all the glitz and glamour of big city does not equal happiness.

Isn’t time for the 2019 thread? Size is coming I heard Hellvig 6’2 will play beach also and Canadian Jaime Santer is 6’1. Koa...are Canadians Anna Maidment and Erika Vermette still committed to come in next year? We need a couple of players to graduate early (like Kelly Claes did) and play starting in January! Can Hellvig please graduate early?

Koa...are Canadians Anna Maidment and Erika Vermette still committed to come in next year? I know Erika is for sure, but likely both. Maidment has signed but Cindy says that Vermette will be staying in Canada to play indoor. Bummed to hear that but a great opportunity for her.

In trying to match up with other top teams...mainly USC (Graudina 6'0" and Bustamante 6'0", Cannon 6'3" and Slater 5'10"), here's a couple of lineups I'd like to see tried with the current roster:
1. Maglio and Scoles 2. Martin and Ozee 3. Loker and Homayun 4. Huddleston and Russo 5. Dreeuws and Napolean
or
1. Maglio and Scoles 2. Martin and Loker 3. Ozee and Homayun 4. Huddleston and Napolean 5. Dreeuws and Russo
I feel like we need two more impact players to compete. In my ideal world for this coming season, Iosia would play and Hellvig would graduate early to play.
1. Maglio and Martin 2. Ozee and Scoles 3. Hellvig and Homayun 4. Iosia and Huddleston 5. Loker and Napolean or Dreeuws and Russo
If just Iosia were to come out:
1. Maglio and Scoles 2. Martin and Ozee 3. Loker and Homayun 4. Iosia and Huddleston 5. Russo and Napolean or Dreeuws
