Live Stats weren't working tonight for the BYU-LMU match, but if you want to see the box score it's up at: byucougars.com/event-stats/w-volleyball/box-score/1285049Both Kovac and Slattery had exceptional nights for LMU. RJP always carries a huge load for BYU, but honestly, when one player has 20 kills and the next best comes up with 5 kllls in 3 sets, you are in trouble. It was a rough night for everyone else, and very atypical for the BYU middles, who have been really solid night after night. (Gneiting hits .393 on the year and Eschenberg .356). But it's troubling that this is the second time in the last 3 matches where BYU has hit under .200 (they hit .193 against Saint Mary's last week).

LMU can still make the tournament. They’ll have to do what nobody else has been able to do this season: beat BYU. Hola, Claire Voyant.

Picha will be hugely missed. Edwards was also a large part of the offense the past two years but has been injured most of this season, so they've already had to do without her (Jacobsen has played in her spot, and they get her back for another season). Fuller really struggled this year and hasn't started much of the second half of the season. So it will be hard to replace a senior MB like Picha with a freshman, especially with Picha's blocking experience and hitting efficiency, but they are getting a tall and highly touted MB in Frohling next year. I think Saint Mary's losing 4 starters and BYU losing Haddock-Eppick and RJP, along with a very good DS, Martindale, are bigger losses to try to recover from. Frohling is a RS/S Ok. At 6'5, have to guess she will be more RS than S. That leaves Jacobsen and the freshman MB Turner, who did not play this season. Is there another MB who signed this week?

Updated Unofficial RPI numbers after tonight 36 Pepperdine 45 Saint Mary’s 50 San Diego 55 Loyola Marymount The WCC might find a way to get all four in. San Diego seems kind of vulnerable at #50... They are 15-12 on the season and 13-5 in conference with nice wins over Baylor, Tennessee, Pepperdine x1, but losses to San Diego State (!) and Oregon State. In conference they only lost to St. Mary's x 2, BYU x 2 and Pepperdine x 1, so clearly have improved since early in the season. LMU is 20-9 on the season, but played an easy OOC and are 10-8 in the WCC with losses to San Diego x 2, Gonzaga x 2, Pepperdine x 2, Pacific, and BYU. LMU's best wins of the season are St. Mary's x 2, Kansas, and now, shockingly, BYU. Watching LMU play last night, it's hard to imagine all of those losses, as well as a come-from-down 0-2 win against Santa Clara. Clearly, they played their hearts out last night, as they have periodically at other times in the season, but definitely not consistently. So what does the committee do when comparing San Diego, who beat LMU twice, vs LMU who beat the #1 team in the country? Let them both in, or neither?

I missed the WCC POW announcement which came out Wednesday. Congrats to Shannon Scully!
Pepperdine’s Shannon Scully Named WCC Volleyball Player of the Week
Sophomore outside hitter lifted the Waves to four wins in six days
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its Volleyball Player of the Week for November 21, 2018. This is the final WCC Player of the Week honor for the 2018 season. WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – SHANNON SCULLY, SO., OH – PEPPERDINE Sophomore outside hitter Shannon Scully propelled the Waves to four conference wins and a second-place finish in the West Coast Conference last week, while collecting three double-doubles in the process of pushing Pepperdine to the program’s first 20-win season since 2012. Scully averaged 4.80 points/set after amassing 4.27 kills/set, 2.73 digs/set, 0.33 aces, 0.40 blocks/set and 0.13 assists/set. She also totaled 72.0 points after putting up 64 kills with only 17 errors on 155 swings for a .303 success rate, along with 41 digs, five aces, six blocks and two assists throughout the match in 15 sets played. In the back line, she marked 54 total service receptions with only one error for a .981 success rate. In the first sweep over Gonzaga, Scully posted 16 kills with only one error on 30 swings for an impressive career-high .500 hitting percentage. She added eight digs, two aces and a block and assist to pick up 18.5 total points in the match. Then, in the four-set win over Portland, she was solid with a team-best 18 kills on a .286 clip, while adding 10 digs for her first double-double of the week, as well as a block for 18.5 points. In the final sweep over PCH Cup rival Loyola Marymount, Scully led the Waves again with 14 kills on a .333 success rate, while adding 12 digs for a double-double. She added an ace, block and assist for 15.5 points. In the final five-set win over USD in a battle for second place in the WCC, Scully posted a team-best 16 kills, along with 11 digs for her 13th-double-double of the season. She added three blocks and two aces in the all-around effort. Of particular note: Pepperdine concluded the 2018 regular season winning five consecutive matches despite dealing with the after effects of mass shooting at a popular club combined with the evacuation and closure of the Pepperdine campus due to devastating wildfires in the area. With their gear and practice equipment inaccessible due to the campus closure, Pepperdine relocated practices and matches and is now on the brink of the program’s first NCAA appearance since 2012.
Also Nominated: Roni Jones-Perry, BYU; Carey Williams, Portland; Sarah Chase, Saint Mary’s; Peighton De Von, Gonzaga; Kaitlyn Lines, Pacific; Addie Picha, San Diego 2018 WCC Volleyball Player of the Week 11/21/18 – Shannon Scully, Pepperdine 11/12/18 – Heather Gneiting, BYU 11/5/18 – Kaitlyn Lines, Pacific 10/29/18 – Sara Kovac, Loyola Marymount 10/22/18 – Lyndie Haddock-Eppich, BYU 10/15/18 – Blossom Sato, Pepperdine 10/8/18 – Roni Jones-Perry, BYU 10/1/18 – Roni Jones-Perry, BYU 9/24/18 – Hannah Frohling, Pepperdine 9/17/18 – Lyndie Haddock-Eppich, BYU 9/10/18 – Tess Reid, Loyola Marymount 9/3/18 – Roni Jones-Perry, BYU 8/27/18 – Shayla Hoeft, Portland

So excited the WCC got five teams in this year. What a pleasant surprise! I did not see that coming at all. Also nice to see such a steady player like Shannon Scully win player of the week. She really helped the Waves finish the season strongly.

WCC fans have a lot to be happy about after tonight's NCAA Tournament selection show. 5 teams made it to the tournament and BYU got a top 4 seed. Now, let's hope more than one team can make some headway in the tournament.
BYU got the #4 seed, which is great, except it presumably gets them #5 Texas as an opponent if they get to the regional final. But being able to host the first 4 matches is a big edge for BYU. Hope they are healthy and motivated enough to take advantage of it.
BYU starts Friday at 6pm against Stony Brook, a match which they pretty much cannot lose. Then will face the winner of Utah/Denver on Saturday at 6pm. Gotta assume there will be another really tough BYU vs Utah matchup. After that, they face one of 4 Florida teams, and Texas.
Pepperdine starts play at 3pm on Thursday (at Wisconsin) against Northern Iowa, which has upset some really good teams and lost to some not-so-good teams. Should be a very competitive match. If Pepp wins, they get to play Wisconsin on Friday at 5pm.
San Diego starts out playing (at USC) against Cal Poly on Friday at 6pm. This should be a very good match, but USD needs to step up its play at the pins because CP's hot terminating pins will be taking more swings than USD's excellent middles. If USD manages to upset Cal Poly, they will face #11 USC Saturday at 7pm.
St. Mary's gets to fly to Omaha and play University of Washington (at Creighton) Friday at 1:30 pm. If they can pull off the upset, they face #9 Creighton in the second round.
LMU, who played themselves into the tournament on Tuesday by beating BYU, got potentially the easiest first round opponent in Duke, playing at Stanford. It's an interesting first round matchup between two at-large teams who were on the bubble, and it could go either way. The second round opponent will be Stanford, which would be a fascinating repeat matchup from 2015.
Sidenote: Of those Pacific transfers who had never gotten to play in the NCAA tournament, former Pacific star OH, Baptista, will be playing in the tournament this year for USC (along with Pepperdine transfer, Gross, and USF transfer, Murtagh). All three are starters for USC this season. Setter/Opp Andie Shelton finally gets to play in the tournament after 4 years at Pacific, and she gets to do it close to home, at Stanford, and against old rival, LMU. Shelton has been a large part of Duke's success this season. MB Ashlyn Fleming is a key starter for Illinois, which has had a magical season so far, and received the #3 seed.

bayarea - yes alot to be happy about! Go Gaels - tough opponent and interesting with Keegan Cook having bay area ties (coaching with Browning at SMC early in his career).
I am also happy for Univ of Portland going to the post season as well.

The NCAA tournament matches should all be streamed, and TCMullet, that guru of archiving thousands of NCAA matches, has graciously provided a spreadsheet with links. "Like last year, I shall provide my tool for easily visiting all the live streams for Round 1 and Round 2. Here's the link, which at present is "empty". Over the next couple days, I will fill in all 48 links. Simply go to the page, bookmark it, then visit it throughout your viewing hours on Thursday thru Saturday." www.tomsgoodfiles.com/volleyball-great-video-clips.php#2018wvtournRead more: volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/75749/2018-tournament-viewing-engine#ixzz5XzeUz5vR

wccsports.com/news/2018/11/26/womens-volleyball-wcc-announces-2018-volleyball-all-conference-team.aspxSAN BRUNO, Calif. --- After spending the bulk of the 2018 season ranked No. 1 in the country, BYU volleyball swept the West Coast Conference major individual honors and placed five student-athletes on the All-WCC first team. BYU senior All-American Roni Jones-Perry was voted the 2018 Player of the Year while junior libero Mary Lake secured WCC Defensive Player of the Year honors for the second straight year. Heather Gneiting earned WCC Freshman of the Year accolades for the Cougars, while head coach Heather Olmstead was selected as the Coach of the Year. All four major individual awards – including the all-conference and all-freshman teams – were voted on solely by the WCC's 10 head coaches. Jones-Perry was the focal point of the most efficient offenses in the country as the Cougars led the nation in attack percentage (.318) and 15th in kills per set (14.21). The outside hitter averaged 4.71 kills per set, good for 11th among Division I leaders and was fifth in points per set (5.47). During conference play, Jones-Perry averaged 4.69 kills per set on .344 attacking. Jones-Perry is the fourth Cougar to earn Player of the Year honors and the first since three-time BYU All-American Alexa Gray won back-to-back Player of the Year honors from 2014-15. Lake is the third Cougar to capture Defensive Player of the Year honors and the first libero to do so in consecutive seasons since current AVP professional Betsi Metter won three straight honors (2011-13) for Loyola Marymount. Lake ranked fifth among conference leaders in digs (3.95 per set) while keying one of the league’s top defensive units. In overall matches, Lake registered 359 digs. BYU middle blockers Whitney Young (2014) and All-American Amy Boswell (2015) also earned Defensive Player of the Year honors. Gneiting made an immediate impact for the Cougars in her debut season for the top-ranked team in the country. The middle blocker led the WCC and ranked 18th among Division I leaders in attack percentage (.393) and was sixth in blocks per set (1.57) to go along with 2.04 kills per set. Gneiting is the third straight BYU student-athlete (fifth overall) to capture top frosh honors, joining teammates Kennedy Redding (2017) and McKenna Miller (2016). This is the second WCC Coach of the Year honor for Olmstead, who propelled BYU to the first No. 1 volleyball national ranking in conference history. Along the way, Olmstead directed the Cougars to a 27-match winning streak and the program’s second straight 17-1 league slate and a fifth consecutive WCC title. Olmstead owns an overall record of 114-12 (.905) in Provo. BYU earned a No. 4 national seed in the 2018 NCAA Volleyball Championships and will open postseason play Friday, Nov. 30 against Stony Brook. This year’s first team features just three student-athletes making a repeat appearance. For the first time in conference history 11 of the 12 capturing first team honors will compete in the NCAA Tournament. Five West Coast Conference volleyball programs will compete in the 2018 NCAA Tournament as announced Sunday on ESPNU. The five teams represent the most for the conference since a record-tying six squads made the 2012 field. In addition, Portland will make its postseason debut when it competes in the 2018 NIVC Tournament beginning Thursday, Nov. 29. 2018 West Coast Conference Coach of the Year Heather Olmstead, BYU 2018 West Coast Conference Player of the Year Roni Jones-Perry, BYU 2018 West Coast Conference Defender of the Year Mary Lake, BYU 2018 West Coast Conference Freshmen of the Year Heather Gneiting, BYU 2018 All-WCC Volleyball First Team Name Yr.
