When the NCAA poll begins, please consider providing a weekly view of the Volleytalk poll adjacent to the NCAA poll. Thank Will the weekly Volleytalk poll be released prior to the deadline for the NCAA poll voters? The biggest difference between my ballot and the actual poll is San Diego. I had them unranked |

We will have to have the Home Office in Omaha (Carson's old place for you millennials) decide when the volleytalk poll should be released each week. |

For the 2018 season a couple of us thought it would be fun to put together a Volleytalk Top 25 weekly ranking and see how it compares to AVCA poll and any other polls that come out. Awesome. This will be the best poll in all of college volleyball, the most accurate. We have the most knowledgeable and passionate members. |

I know the Kern votes need to be in before the AVCA poll, but it is released AFTER. As a courtesy, I think, although I can't imagine the AVCA cares.

For the record, I picked Minnesota #4. Also for the record, I voted a top 30. Proving I can't follow directions and should not be allowed to vote. Actually I am glad you did because I was going to recommend everyone do that moving forward so we could have the next 5, but there was plenty of variety in teams 18-25 so we could have had a top 35 in reality. |

Unless I missed a game or two there are 10 teams playing against ranked opponents come opening day (24th is opening day isn't it?)
The 25th is nearly as active so by Sunday we should have a pretty good idea about who the pretenders and who the contenders are. (I know, a season isn't made in a weekend, buuuuuuut expectations can be)
Aug 24th
16 Creighton vs 7 UK
4 TX vs 12 OR
17 WA vs 19 SD
5 UK vs 9 USC
2 NE vs 8 FL

This is a really good preseason list. It very fairly takes into account all the proper variables at this point. But I think that the depth of talent is so strong this year that I can see several new teams (2, maybe 3) cracking into the top ten by the end. Let the games begin and let's see who rises to the top.

We thought it would be a lot of fun and have are own debates internally on vtalk on a top 25, and like you said there's a lot of knowledgeable folks who watch too much volleyball so chances are our poll may be more accurate. If this is a hit... I'm glad I thought of it! If it turns out to be a flop I should have never listened to c4ndlelight ! I have my fall guy lined up LOL |

The most important thing is to admit it when you make a mistake and adjust accordingly. That is, just because I have a team at #3 to start the season (or #4 or wherever), I should drop them as soon as I think it was too high.
It's my biggest complaint about the AVCA -- the glacial pace of poll movement and the tendency to commit to the preseason ranking for way too long.

The voters that didn't vote Stanford #1 need to be removed. As I understand it (from vbprisoner, hopefully I'm not giving away trade secrets), a lot of Stanford's first place votes came from the Midwest while Nebraska's came from the west coast. Fans playing hot potato with frontrunner pressure. |
