10 months away from the new season and the bickering already begins.... Last December 2017, I was thinking the same thing re. 10 months away. And then, after some video game play later, it was already August 2018. Time really flies.

By September 2019 and over half dozen matches later, I'll have a better sense of what the individual new players can and cannot do.

Guessing, you should take over being the Head Coach of the Wahine. That way you can play every one on the roster every match. Never be concerned about winning, or losing a match. Just being able to play everyone on the roster, would be your main purpose as Head Coach. Really, how deep was the Wahine’s roster this season that she opted not to use everyone on the bench even when the starters were playing at their worst? It seems as if she just wasted her redshirt year so that she has one less season left and get rid of her a year earlier? It’s like to the point of giving her a hint to just transfer out because her “recruiting class” is coming. Even Gong had more substantial playing time than her. Gong and Casteneda played two different positions, it's not fair to compare playing time for the two...I'm sure if Gong was an outside hitter she wouldn't have seen the court more than Casteneda.

I don't know what went on behind the scenes so I can't really judge but the coaches' decision to only play Castaneda in a few partial sets is something I wonder about. I hope that Castaneda said that she didn't want to redshirt or else it was clear to her when she was being recruited that she'd likely see little playing time for the first year (or two or however long it will probably be). Some players know when they come into a program that they'll be bench players who will probably only ever come in a few sets/season. They're fine with that. That may be the case here. Most of us don't know.

Hambly did when they played West Virginia in the pre-season and when they played Alabama State in the first round last week. In the game against Alabama State, in addition to playing all the players who rarely see action, he also had Fitz serve and hit from the back, which she rarely does. Fidelek (who has only played against W. Virginia and Alabama State this season) played all around even though she's an opposite and will probably not play in the back row if she ever comes in due to injury. (She's a lefty opposite and we have two excellent OHs coming in next season so she is very unlikely to ever play any other position. They want Formico to play back row so she has to come in for someone and it's not likely to be for McClure or Plummer.) He had Bowen play against Oregon State earlier this season (presumably for game experience) and that paid off when Alade got injured and Bowen had to play more often. Guessing, you should take over being the Head Coach of the Wahine. That way you can play every one on the roster every match. Never be concerned about winning, or losing a match. Just being able to play everyone on the roster, would be your main purpose as Head Coach. Guessing, you're off your meds, Steve/Laura/Yvonne.

With luck, we'll get a setter transfer that battles Noreen for starts. Competition is good across the board. And libero, pin and middle transfers also.

Maybe the coaches waiting to see if Isabella Haak have any eligibility left and will announce the signing of those two together. :-)

I. Haak is playing MVP level as a 19 year old pro. Annie is getting court time on her new team and is racking up numbers.

Not sure if this is entirely true or correct, but Hellvig's admission/signing is pending because of two reasons:
1. Swedish educational system is different so UH is waiting for some grades to be finalized. 2. She allegedly has to take the TOEFL again to pass minimum requirements for UH admission.
Shouldn't be an issue, but she will get in. Some men's vball players and several tennis players struggled with the writing section of TOEFL, so it's nothing to worry about.
