You pass a serve or a free ball, and you dig an attack (to target, hopefully, meaning close to the setter). Thank you for the explanation. But curious, why do they not call it serve/pass, instead of what they call it now, serve/receive? Just wondering. You will often hear people, say "you have to win the serve and pass game." That refers to two separate things: 1). you have to serve hard, and 2) you have to pass well on serve receive when the other team serves to you. I think what you mean to say is serve/serve receive, not serve/receive.

I'm not the one to favour any recruit. If you look hard enough and watch full games you can see Westerberg with some amazing back row plays. Then again I do remember her playing at AAU IN FLORIDA and ripping it up.
The coaches know who she is and from what I understand schools are kicking themselves for not approaching her but let's give it up for Robyn and Angelica they have brought us talent on all levels with all the new girls. All of them from 2018 to 2019 these girls all know you will earn your spot on that court. I believe that it will be a fierce Team a great team and most important a united team. Who plays is earned.
God bless the Wahine

Part of the reason I'd consider keeping Westerberg at opposite (if she shows capability there), is she may be our best terminator. If she were to stay in the middle, we'd lose her for three rotations on the bench. If she plays opposite she could be available to hit the D set and pipe set out of the back row, which means she's always an option, ala Nikky Taylor. Now, before all the critics here get upset, I am WELL-AWARE this is just assumptions. But as a player and coach at the HS and club, and overall fan of the game for years, I know a hitter when I see one, and Westerberg is someone hawaii may need on the floor for six-rotations. And no, she would not pass. In your last sentence, do you actually mean, receive, as in serve/receive. If she plays the back row, she will have to pass at some point. She will only have to play defense like Taylor did. She would not be in the passing rotation as an opposite. At least based on how most offensive opposites are played.

Thank you for the video on Hellvig, first I've seen. Love what I saw. I like that the highlights included even her "off" plays versus just her highlights (like the Westerberg one). Hellvig and Wagoner have the tools to play all six rotations. Good instincts from the back row... and they can pass, serve and play defense - HUGE. Hellvig seems to have more pop than Wagoner though. But I like these two outsides. I agree with the poster that compared them to Greeley (Wagoner) and Hartong (Hellvig). Not saying they are at that level, but the potential of their game seems to liken to those two. Hellvig really brings an exclamation point to the five recruits for me. She's a good one. You're Welcome! I have to admit, I did exclude Hellvig's shanked balls from the video, because Norway served her A LOT but her passing is still good. One thing that came to mind about Hellvig is her serving, she had an ace per set vs Norway and even aced their libero 2 or 3 times. With all of the footage of Hellvig, I have to conclude that she is the most likely freshman to start. I feel like I need a highlight of Riley Wagoner when she played Texas Advantage for a championship but that footage is old. Yes thank you, it was a gift to watch. I could not get myself to go through the whole video and spot her.

God bless the Wahine I saw this full Westerberg vid of her 2018 provincial championship. She played OH/Some MH in #10 in white with the black leggings. I definitely was not impressed with her passing or floor defense. She had difficulty digging the hard hit ball and she was either subbed out for a DS or hidden in the back row. Offensively she did not hit from the back row, so I'm not sure why she was there. She couldn't produce any kills in the 1st set but she had 3 booming kills in the 2nd. I say keep her in the middle if she is consistent with the ability in her highlight vids. possibly move her to opposite if the middle doesn't work. Btw that other tall OH on Westerberg's team was a STUD! Is Hawaii recruiting her?

I really don’t care how Robyn use Tiffany....as long as she is used more diversely than our MB of this past year. All of our MBs are strictly “1” hitters with no ability to run any slide/step outs. The ability to move her around and give her different sets to hit will make the team better.

The hitters could definitely do it—just would be redundant to do it when you can just set the right side. I don’t think we ever got our offense as quick as Robyn would have liked it. I loved it when Granato would hit the quick inside (3?) set. Wish we could have gotten Gaskin going on those quick lefty backseat more.

Westerberg looked slow of foot in that video, not much ability to better the ball if she didn't like the set. Not much OTT ability against the bigger block. She could hit hard but could still be dug, and didn't see her go high hands or try to tool. Didn't look like a good out of system option. She was blockable. In the middle, she was slow laterally and didn't see much vertical. There's potential, but may need a lot of hard work to realize it. Hope she reports in top condition, o/w predict those who do will see more court time next year.
Got a kick out of the 'Academy' libero getting a yellow card in the third set after yelling 'C'mon!' at the up ref. A Westerberg bomb had been dug and then the "Thunder" back row had a loud double hit of a set from deep in the 1 zone to the OH. The Up Ref waved the libero over, made her raise her hand after issuing the yellow card, but then she walked away and kind of swagged and 'owned' it. Westerberg gave her some appreciation.

Westerberg looks like a star compared to Williams and Burns , at the same age. A few years of RAMS and Ljungqvist coaching will do her good.
