A player with a super high volleyball IQ can overcome their lack of height, and be quite effective. As proven by Iosia, when she played OPP, this past year. A lot of short OH/OPP players have proven this out. Iosia hit .209 for the season.

Wagoner/Hellvig > Granato/Castillo I am hoping, keeping my fingers crossed, Wagoner/Hellvig = Kahumoku/Willoughby, the last really Great LS tandems. If Wagoner/Hellvig, get even close to those two, by the time they are done, I will be very happy. Hilarious. Dream on.

True...true...HOWEVER...Wagoner said that she always wanted to play for Hawaii so that is a different story. I am also talking about TRANSFERS and not freshmen. We do have some success with freshman.....Therese Crawford, Jamie Houston, Jessica Keefe, etc...but transfers are another story. I don't remember the last time we got a transfer from that part of the country. I hope Chandlar do consider coming here but like I said...I rather have Ava Bell. Keefe was not a success. She was always injured and knee problems. She was a walking in out patient. The poster meant success in landing freshmen from that part of the country.

Kim Willoughby went unnoticed until she started playing for the junior national team. Louisiana is not exactly a hotbed of volleyball talent, but every now and then a player comes along and like Charlie said in an interview while recruiting her, all he saw was armpits above the net, and that just blew his mind and it reminded him of another similar player (Teee Williams) whom he coached, years before. Remember now, Kim Willoughby almost became a 49er, trying to follow in her older cousin's footsteps there at Long Beach State. We were very lucky to have her for 4 years.

Does having a great vertical all that important being a MB? Most of their hits go through or go past the blocks and not over the block. We have had girls that were not leapers but we’re still very solid. For an OH, having a good vertical might be more important because you always facing double blocks and you can used your hops to go over a shorter blocker but in the middle....everything is quick. It’s not like you can jump, survey the court and then hit the ball. That 10’ touch number might have been from earlier in her career. She looks like she can go up and pound the ball in the video I posted. If you look at her attempted block at the 13 seconds mark, she looks to have her entire shoulder up to the top of the tape. She can jump. Maybe not at the elite level but she can jump. I'm hoping the NCSAsports numbers are old, but I think players pay the website to put up their own information. I agree that vertical is probably more important for an OH because of how much ground they have to cover and how they have to adjust for their sets. For example, I don't think Burns could be an OH, but she's still effective swatting at quick sets to the middle. I think most big vertical jumpers have explosive fast twitch muscles. That helps them get into position faster, and gives them that all-important hang time when blocking. And of course, another three inches of block to go over makes it that much harder for the other team.

CHANDLAR DUFF Middle Blocker | Grosse Pointe South HS | Grosse Pointe, Mich. | Senior Aces: No. 92 About Chandlar: Along with Bacon, Duff provides the Ducks with another big, dynamic athlete coming in as a middle blocker. Long and lean at 6'2", Duff's speed and lateral movement enables her to be a tremendous blocker in the middle. Duff played for Grosse Pointe South High School and Legacy Volleyball Club, and she was a key member of the Legacy 16 Elite squad that finished top five nationally. A sprinter in high school, Duff's speed and athleticism should make for an exciting and explosive player for the Ducks. Ulmer's Take: "Chandlar has the best smile in the gym. Her constant energy and passion is going to help her grow into a big-time middle blocker. Chandlar is quick and long limbed, she has a whip of an arm and effortless jump. She glides when she attacks and has great blocking instincts. Chandlar has all of the physical tools to be a dominating force at the net and I am so pumped to watch her game develop every day." Chandlar's Take: "I toured many schools throughout my recruitment process and none of them hit home like Oregon! I chose Oregon because to me, besides playing college volleyball, I wanted the campus and the area that I would soon call home to be everything I ever imagined, like the education, being surrounded by other high-level recruits and, mainly, the coaching staff. Once I met Matt, I had an instant connection and knew I wanted to further my volleyball career with him as my coach at the University of Oregon." Leaving oregon Hopefully, she remembered that rocking atmosphere she experienced when she was here with the team. However, she is from Michigan so I don't think we have had many luck getting transfer kids from that area of the country. Usually kids from there will transfer to a school closer to home not further from home. She will have a lot of options to choose from. I still rather have Ava Bell since we have had success with Texans and believe Bell may feel more at home here since she have been to Hawaii on vacation before and is friendly with UH beach player Julia Scoles. Ava is also a OH/MB type so she can move to another position if she is needed there. Ava Bell to Tennessee. Scoles and the so-called Texas connection could not land us a UNC transfer AS PREDICTED

There have been a few middles that have utilized it to their own benefit and have been successful...Akinradewo comes to mind, also Heather Bown, Cheryl Weaver, and Sherisa Livingston. I see a few in the college game now...Butler at Texas and Morgan at Minnesota.

She probably committed to Tennessee because the head coach there was an assistant HC at UNC a couple of years ago. Probably recruited her to UNC before she got the job at UT. Robyn might not have even went after her so my wishing her to become a Wahine was strictly my dream. Oh well....time to find someone else.

The wahine will pick up a couple transfers. Robyn said she gets 100s of emails about people wanting to come. We will see if we can land an impact transfer. Hopefully a setter and Pin, with possibly a libero.

Hopefully a setter and Pin, with possibly a libero. hope she doesn't waste scholarships on players that have some sort of connection to her unless they are a stud and are only one-dimensional players. Anyways Robyn did say that she did get over 100s of emails wanting to come yet we ended up with Liva and Gaskin which means thats the best we could get and probably most of they were way worse and D2,D3 material, Not good I'm starting believe RAMS can't recruit impact players that can change the program around but its still early so don't bash me for saying that.

Lets be real the ugly truth has finally been revealed. Wagoner can't terminate. Passing might be her greatest asset but i see her as another Granato until proven. Igiede has no highlights of her blocking, she can't hit behind the setter yet she says she wants to play RS. AND i still hate her footwork Hellvig is an unknown, apparently Sweden is in one of the bottom tier of the U18 championships standings so not good. Is Akana even a legit 5'11. She is athletic but I don't see her starting for her entire career. Playing opp dont think at 5'11 will shut down the best opposing attacker or does playing in the middle when she doesn't have the hops as Kaufman. Westerberg touch of 10'0 is really ugly...

2019 is Robyn's first freshman class. It's way too early to judge how well she recruits. I'm not going to be worried until at least we see the 2020 class play bc she got a late start for the 2019 class. Many recruits had already committed for 2019 by the time Robyn became coach. Even in 2020, it will be somewhat early bc there are players this season like Quade for Illinois and Alade for Stanford who weren't good until they were juniors.
Nikki Taylor also took a while to be dominant. Let's give Robyn some time before we say that she's a bad recruiter or a great recruiter. We don't know yet.
I am encouraged about Lundqvist working with the middles. Burns, Liva, and Williams all improved this season. I hope that our new MB recruits improve a lot as well. Time will tell.

Ok I have watch this negative fest long enough. Westerberg stats were posted two years ago. From what was shown and what I have seen of her so far this girl has leaned up. Let's see if someone posts something new.
The other recruits look great. The girls are looking amazing and I will tell u this I don't see all u haters going out there to make things strong.
Love how you take one bad game to pass judgement. When there is so much positive to see. I'm sure we can look at the SB game and say the girls looked like Div 2 players.
I support the Wahine it's coaches players and recruits.

Quade and Alade were both top 50 recruits, something UH does not have. They were being set by two of the best setters this year so of course they are going to look good. Quade has a lot of work to do to repeat as a 1st team AA.
