Just out of curiosity, how are you rainbow wahine fans liking ROBYN AH MOW-SANTOS taking over for Dave Shoji ? Is she measuring up ? Arguments go like this: 1. Robyn Ah Mow-Santos (aka RAMS) has done a great job because she did the most with the crappy players left behind by Shoji. Two BWC 2nd place finishes and two NCAAs. 2. RAMS will do wonders in the years to come because she has done a great job recruiting -- at least on paper. 3. Players have bought into RAMS's coaching style because there have been only one transfer out in her two years -- and this was in September 2018 after the season already started. Or . . . Hawaii should have hired someone with D1 head coaching experience; Robyn's first two classes have not impressed - even though the best incoming freshman have been snatched up for years; and her hard nosed style will chase players away.

I always look forward to Hawaii threads making their way to the top of the page with a new post.

Curious never heard back. Did you find the page and did you find any footage. I didn't look because my question was not who she was competing against, but which player is she most like as a comparison.

What first two recruiting classes are you talking about, have not impressed. Need to understand, those Freshmen players coming into the program, Robyn's 1st two years were recruited by Dave Shoji. 2019 will be Robyn's first true recruiting class.

IMHO you can't really count the 2017 season because that was Robyn's 1st year and she was hired only 7 months before the start of the 2017 season but she was here a whole year and a half prior to the start of the 2018 season and who did she bring in for 2018? She brought in 3 one and done's of which only 1 was any good (very good in fact, and no offense to the other players. I'm just keeping it real). You can make whatever excuses you want (players are recruited years in advance, all the top players are committed etc...) but her 2018 recruits, with the exception of Tita, didn't really pan out. I've bought into the hype in years past so I'm not going to do that anymore. I do like the videos that I have seen of Hellwig, Westerberg, Wagoner, and Igeide though and I've seen Akana first-hand so I feel they will definitely make an impact. With that being said, I'm willing to give Robyn a couple of more years to recruit and make the program relevant again. Until then I'm going to try to keep my criticism of her to a minimum.....

As far as Akiu is concerned, she was the key to success this year. I know that many people felt that it was so awesome that Robyn decided to award her a scholarship after one of the matches after the season started, but my feeling about that was to think "Couldn't you see that in practice all along?" In fact, the constant subbing of players strategy (and the inconsistent performances) always made me question what Robyn's evaluation criteria actually is, and what kind of handle she has on her developmental and evaluation drills in practice (other than working hard or showing intensity.) On the other hand, I think she has shown a lot of growth as a coach, has a lot of passion, and has demonstrated greater patience and genuine care and concern for her players. I also think it's a solid recruiting class that has good potential.

Akiu was arguably one of the best liberos in Wahine program history, (others in mind include Longo, Kaaihue). I'd give Robyn another year or two before we can make any serious criticisms. Her visible passion for the game is what really gives me hope.

I fully agree with the statement, "...it's a solid recruiting class that has good potential.", w/ two caveats: 1) In competition w/ other BW conference universities, it Rocks; 2) I just watched my 2nd alma mater win their second NCAA NC with the most heralded recruiting class of 2016 (And, they have the #1 class of '19: by far!). P5 Conference competition - plus recruiting - Is A Much different deal than with mid-major schools. Shoji's heyday was when UH WAS A Major Power school. I hope Robyn can return them to such the stature in her time here. With Hawai'i's MOST Unique volleyball culture - plus its one-of-a-kind fanbase - I don't feel that that is out of reach!

Every D1 coach had to start somewhere. Robyn has done a great job with the talent she has had on the roster. Her recruiting classes haven’t even stepped on the court at UH so not sure what you mean by saying they have not impressed.

What the heck is going on with Hellvig’s paperwork? At this rate, I think it would be faster if I started taking a class in Swedish and translated the documents myself.

Cindy Luis responded in her blog recently that she thought it would take until spring. (Hopefully she meant start of spring semester, not spring on the calendar.) Purely guessing, but if NCAA is involved, remember that things of concern to Hawaii are handled SmartPost, not Priority Overnight.

Maybe they may also wait to announce Hellvig with the rest of the transfers that Hawaii might pick up, so I think it is possible that we don't hear anything until spring...
