To long time wahine fans, how would akiu compare to yamashota? Comparable to Yamashota but I think Yamatallah was a bit better. 😣

IMO they are at the same level, but that's just going by memory. I don't know how their numbers compare. Yama%*$#a was referred to as 'the vacuum cleaner', at least in the crowd where we sat back in those days. Both players were very good.

Nalani in my opinion was better defensively. She was also great from the service line. But I would definitely pick both of them to pass and defend the backcourt.

Cindy Luis responded in her blog recently that she thought it would take until spring. (Hopefully she meant start of spring semester, not spring on the calendar.) Purely guessing, but if NCAA is involved, remember that things of concern to Hawaii are handled SmartPost, not Priority Overnight. Maybe they may also wait to announce Hellvig with the rest of the transfers that Hawaii might pick up, so I think it is possible that we don't hear anything until spring... DS tandem Hanawahine and Tastad from Oregon are on the market now. Predicting that Hanawahine will transfer home. Hoping that she isn't too banged up and can still play. Doubtful that Tastad will choose Hawaii since she has so many options in her native So Cal but we can try.

Looks like she's had some playing time but limited. How good is she?? Why does she want to leave Oregon?

What the heck is going on with Hellvig’s paperwork? At this rate, I think it would be faster if I started taking a class in Swedish and translated the documents myself. Good luck navigating all them umlauts ...

She's presumably leaving Oregon bc Georgia Murphy is coming in next year and she's a very good DS/libero. Nuneviller, their current libero, is excellent and will be a sophomore. She was named to VT's third team and deserves it. (She may end up as an OH but that's yet to be seen.) Tastad appears to be transferring so that's one fewer ds/libero but Van Sickle is also still ahead of Hanawahine. So it's not likely that she'll see the court that often next season or possibly ever at Oregon. They are super deep in the back court. Washington fans joke about it in the PAC 12 threads and ask Oregon to send some of them to Washington.

Hanawahine is good, but not on tastads level but would still be a VERY good pickup if we land her

It will be interesting to see what Robyn's recruiting philosophy is going forward. She has 3 scholarships remaining for 2019, and 2 or more scholarships for 2020. We do know 1 scholarship for 2020 is reserved for Lang (Setter). How many of those 3 remaining scholarships for 2019 will she reserve for transfers, and for what positions? Will Robyn try to bring in a transfer setter who is one and done, or have 2, maybe even 3 years remaining? Will Robyn use her 3 remaining scholarships on transfers, or will she hold on to 1, maybe 2 scholarships for 2020? Going forward, what positions will Robyn be recruiting for come 2020, and beyond? These are questions, in my mind, that will define Robyn's philosophy on recruiting for the Wahine team.

I think that may affect how many transfers she ideally wants and how long (i.e., how many years left for the player) they'd ideally be for. Then, who is realistically available will be important and lead to deviations from the ideal but it's good to have the ideal as a starting base.

Then, who is realistically available will be important and lead to deviations from the ideal but it's good to have the ideal as a starting base. The athletes on scholarship for the upcoming 2019 season will be: Castaneda (Sophomore) Williams (Junior) Sibley (Senior) Iosia (Senior) Akana (Freshman) Westerberg (Freshman) Igiede (Freshman) Wagoner (Freshman) Hellvig (Freshman) So three scholarships are left available for possible transfers, and after next season, two more scholarships will be opened up (Iosia and Sibley). So far the recruits for 2020 are: Lang European (?) Via (but it was said that she would be a walk-on) Therefore, it looks like Sibley and Iosia's scholarships will be the two incoming recruits' scholarships. This still leaves three possible transfers, and as of right now, the priority looks to be, Setter > Libero > Pin Hitter > MB. If we could get Tastad, that would be a MAJOR get, and I am pretty sure that she would start immediately at the libero position. Next season she would be a sophomore, so she will have a scholarship for three years (and she deserves a scholarship). Hanawahine would also be a great get, but I feel that it would be better if she was a walk-on. If Hanawahine were to play on the team next year, is it a guarantee that she will start over Okino at Libero? I remember watching her play in high school, and she was great, but she has been played very sparingly for Oregon (given that they have Nuneviller, Tastad, and BVS). Hanawahine will be a junior I believe (she didn't redshirt this year, right? I know she played earlier this season). Also, Rasmussen would be a huge transfer for the Wahine, and she will bring in the experience that we lack in the pins. I think she would be a redshirt junior next season? Any information on possible transfer setters? I know there were the rumors about Choy (but I think they were just rumors), and Miller is transferring from UCLA (most likely to Minnesota). Anything else?

I am quite sure, Robyn will only take transfers who she feels will be able to Start, next year. She will not take a transfer, who she feels is a project player. With that said, and looking at the current roster, Robyn will have 1 scholie available for 2021 (Williams spot), and quite possibly 1 or 2 scholies (Castaneda and Krug) for 2022. Thinking Robyn will hold over a scholia for either a transfer, or a freshman recruit for both 2021, and 2022. In 2023 she will have 5 scholies available. I am also thinking the only project player she would bring in would be at the Setter position, to back up Iosia and Lang.

The one player I am hoping does change her mind is, Akana's sister. Right now she verbally committed to USC. But the way USC is heading, she could quite possibly change her mind. Here's hoping she does.

Krug is already on a generous scholarship because of Hawaiian background and her being in-state. It is wise for Robyn to use that scholarship for other students especially if it is to attract potential impact transfers.
