Melissa always seems to have her team 'ready to play' come tournament time...I don't think Wichita expected this kind of match from them, but then again...I could be (and often am) wrong!

At the side change it's Wichita (8-7) - go Shockers!

10-9 SMS. WSU timeout. Again, no one can get up by 2.

(R)uffda!, didn't you say you were watching this match on TV? If so, is it as good as it sounds?

11-10 WSU. Up ref overrules touch call.
I hate those micro touches. I say if it isn't obvious, the hitter does not deserve the call.

15-11 Wichita
Think SMS has a case to make the tourney, (R)uffda!?

15-11 WSU.
Tough, tough loss for SMS. They just got stuck in that last rotation. Erin O'Connor, who had been playing pretty well (long, involved armswing however) just couldn't put the ball away. She was stuffed 1 on 1 on her last swing (by Voss, I believe--a great block).
I'd take SMS over Michigan or Purdue...

I'd say both these teams are better than Marquette and on a par with the ACC teams.

2 1/2 hours +. A nice TV production, btw, although they could have used the endline camera for live action.
Someone on TV needs to figure out how to give us a graphic showing what rotation teams are in--who's in the front row, etc. That'd really help. You just can't get far enough away from the action on TV and still see the court--especially if you aren't using an endline shot.
Both teams hit .178. LOTS of long rallies (110-108 in digs, SMS led). LOTS of blocks. (Apker with 11 BA and Meyers with 10, 18-16 for SMS.) Apker led SMS @ .344. Geer had 20 kills for WSU, but hit .108. That's a deceptive # for her. They were the players of the game.
I guess it's Vohs, not Voss.

This was really a close match. I thought SMS played a little bit better than I've seen them play this year, and WSU was maybe not as sharp. Sara Younes is such a leader on the court, that I think her absence was really missed tonight. Nice play by both teams, however.

Are you joking? I was going to suggest the exact opposite, hmm, it looks like Melissa is finally not going to have her team choke at tournament time.
Has SMS won anything in end of the season tournaments outside of prelim MVC rounds? Heck, they have even lost those when they shouldn't have.
When was the last time they won an NCAA tournament match?

I'm glad WSU won, and if they hadn't, it would have been a real sham, and if I'm a bubble team, I'm on the phone with the NCAA. They hold the conference MVP out of the championship game? How nice to give SMS a chance to win. Fortunately, they still couldn't do it.

Her ankle was wrapped in ice for most of the match. I'd day it was probably wise not to play her.
