But they coulda, and they woulda, if it mattered to them. It didn't. They weren't too concerned about a loss, given they would still have made it.
But it did matter to a lot of folks throughout the country.

But they coulda, and they woulda, if it mattered to them. Not so sure that is true. Depends on the severity of the injury--which I don't know anything about. You could make the argument that playing an injured player would have made things easier for SMS. I agree that it would have made SMS's auto into the tournament a little shady. OTOH, was WSU a lock? I don't think so.

In talking with Chris recently, he definitely did NOT think they were an automatic in. Too many teams have assumed that in the past, only to be disappointed when the pairing were announced. WSU didn't want to leave anything to chance.

I'm glad WSU won, and if they hadn't, it would have been a real sham, and if I'm a bubble team, I'm on the phone with the NCAA. They hold the conference MVP out of the championship game? How nice to give SMS a chance to win. Fortunately, they still couldn't do it. Chris is a little different from some coaches in that he will not play injured players at a risk of furthering their injury. Darci Vohs is a good example. She is arguably the best hitter on the team, but has only been allowed to play one match per weekend, due to lingering foot problems from last season. I think Chris thought the team could win without Sara, with Darci playing, and there was no point in risking further injury to Sara. I'm glad Chris was right., but the match was definitely a nail biter!
