As for the greater region, that Legacy 15's team is going to get raided, and early. Non-volleyball reasons notwithstanding, the Michigan schools are going to have to show a lot of upward momentum this season to keep those players home - them failing to do that could benefit Minnesota recruiting. If Keegan is really smart, he'll skip on recruiting the true heir apparent to Swenson in 2027 and backfill practice setters in the portal until 2028 to land a real setting prize close to home...Josalyn Samuels. And if he doesn't end up getting her, try to poach a 2027 from wherever they committed. Thanks for the intel. I appreciate your posts on the board. It’s always very clear you’ve seen a lot of club teams play. Will be interesting to see if Keegan tries for a 2027 or ‘28. There was at least one 2028 at the prospect camp in June. Tatum Kelly out of New Wave in Illinois. Have you seen her play? Looks like she will be a prized recruit based on the coaches following her. Thanks for the heads up on Samuels from South Dakota. Same club as Bergen Reilly hmm… I’m all for a wide recruiting footprint and not having tunnel vision with in state talent. I’m *thrilled* we plucked Crosson out of Stanford’s backyard and that there were 3+ Texans at the prospect camp. But with the way Nebraska, Texas, Wisconsin, Pitt, Louisville and others got early commitments from top talent this year, having an in-state advantage recruiting an elite player like DeBoer seems like a risky thing to pass on. If she chooses to go elsewhere, then hunker down for a recruiting battle in 2028. Again, I appreciate the discussion! So much can change in a year. My prediction at this time though is that DeBoer gets an offer next June. Re Tatum, not yet. Does she play up? I almost never watch 14’s. Also I do really like Deboer too. But Samuels looks like she has a lot of upside, and you can’t teach size. I hadn't even heard of her until a few weeks ago. I was catching up on the championship round for AAU 15's and she was easily one of the best setters I saw. An impact player, even when her team played Legacy (who is stacked and won AAU nationals, despite playing with a hobbled setter)...girl is a baller, and when I saw she was playing up as a 2028, no question in my mind she's one to watch.

And re Samuels, comes as no surprise to me that she was at the dream camp this past weekend. If she continues a good upward trajectory, she’ll be in the running for #1 overall recruit, which is rare for a setter.

Impressed with both of them, even though this team isn’t much of a competition. Kinney at opp is surprising to me though.

Ok last comment on it in this thread since there's a match thread, but Kinney entered the match as an opposite in a double substitution for the starting opp and setter. Only one opposite was named to the roster so I kind of wondered if Kinney and/or Henley Anderson (TX 2026) would be back up opposites when needed.
Exciting to see two baby Gophs on the floor together in USA jerseys! Elena hitting lots of slides and Kelly thumped one down the line on the left for her first swing of the match.
USA wins set 1 25-8. Don't think the match will be very long. The replay will be available to watch on Facebook if you can't watch live.

Kinney and Hoecke had a really nice match against Canada yesterday, Kinney in particular who impressed with a really smart shot selection and solid ball control. Replay is up www.facebook.com/fhv.hn?mibextid=LQQJ4d

Hola Gopher fans. Are single match tickets easy to get? If so, when do they go on sale? I may be in town during the Washington match and would be interested in going!

Hola Gopher fans. Are single match tickets easy to get? If so, when do they go on sale? I may be in town during the Washington match and would be interested in going! They’re on sale starting this Thursday at 9am CT. I’m guessing the Wisconsin/Nebraska games will go fast, but if you’re just getting a few tickets you should be ok. Welcome!

Outside hitters Kelly Kinney and Henley Anderson, who combined for 14 points in the final set, shared the team lead with 11 points and seven digs each. Kinney totaled eight kills, a block and two aces. Hoecke led the team in blocks and only played two sets. It's nice to see an outside hitter who can dig.

Yes Kinney has had really good passing games too in this tournament.

Dear Gophers,
I think you can sleep well tonight regarding the future. After watching the U19 NORCECA championships, there's Kelly Kinney. It seems like there's nothing she can't do. She actually subs in to play back row because of her passing. I find it hard to describe her.
I think Elena Hoecke has to be the biggest shocker. This was her big breakout moment. She is GOOD. I truly didn't not expect a 16/17 year old to make such a huge impact in the games. Incredible blocking and other attributes.
Anyway, rest easy...

I was very impressed with Kelly’s composure going back to the service line late in the third set against Canada. Match was tied 1-1 and Canada was leading 24-23 after trailing most of the set.
Kelly made three tough serves in a row to help USA to a 26-24 win. Kept some balls from hitting the floor too.
Go USA and Go Gophs!
