I seem to remember (perhaps incorrectly) that when Jessica Yanz (a setter) transferred from Penn State to Nebraska that Russ Rose refused to allow her to play immediately and that she had to sit out the 2008 (?) That was under the old rule, now they don't have to get permission and a school can't hold you hostage . Most are immediately eligible to play if they are first time transfers and not transferring intra conference . Pac12 eliminated these restrictions , they are a couple of players that left a Pac12 program and went to another one and played the very next season. The only way to make you sit out one season is if you signed an NLI and want to transfer before the academic year you promised a school is fulfilled and they don't grant you a full release. Most will release you if they pull academic money I would hope but it is under the new rules so we have to see how programs and AD's will handle that or establish maybe their own guidelines on that unless it is more restricted or detailed but the NCAA |

No. The portal is restricted to NCAA coaching and compliance staff. You would need to know someone with access to be able to know who is in there. |

LOL Sorry The general trend is that vballfreak808 doesn't start a thread for the following year until the conclusion of the current D1 conference season. You will not see a 2020 transfer thread until December at the earliest. |

I'm really bad at guessing genders. I always thought vballfreak808 was a guy. LOL! Also, unless relations are really really bad, players won't put their names in the portal until January. Otherwise, they risk losing their scholarship for the coming term(s). |

Granted, a significant portion of them are grad transfers, but most are not. Many of them are likely looking to transfer before the start of Spring term so they can spend Spring season training with their new team. |

I've been told that a bunch of names have been in the portal for quite a while without garnering much interest. |

I'm not saying that they're all huge names or even that they're all scholarship athletes, but just sharing how there are reasons why it might benefit a student-athlete to enter the portal now instead of waiting until the beginning of January, when most schools resume classes. |
