I am not the biggest fan of Hawaii, and happen to think that many of their fans have an arrogance to them, but so do Duke basketball fans, or Nebraska (well maybe not any more or Oklahoma football fans. It just comes with the fact that they have a very succesful program with a rabid fanbase. Since they seem to have the largest fanbase here on volleytalk, I have found it pointless to try to argue with them about their program/players etc. It will an argument you cannot win and you will end up being shouted down many times over. The over 200+ post thread on Hawaii's outrage being a prime example. It is best just to ignore them to avoid being dragged down into ugly bickering where we may say things we regret. Is this fair, well of course not, but this won't change until fans of Stanford, USC, Nebraska etc. begin to outnumber those from Hawaii, and in all honesty that isn't going to happen anytime soon. It's too bad that in a lot of ways this has almost become a quasi-Hawaii volleyball message board, but it's not Hawaii's fault, it's just the fact that in many parts of the country when you say volleyball, many poeple just say Who Cares? Now if you enjoy wasting time arguing with Hawaii fans, then by all means be my guest, but it's just something you should be aware of when posting. OK end of sermon, ignore if you wish I really don't care, just something I wanted to say.

Most non-Hawaii regulars come to this same conclusion about 3 times through out the year.... preseason build up, over the course of the season, and finally the playoffs.
When we get tired enough, we just give up for a while. Some seem to be more stubborn headed about it.

Some seem to be more stubborn headed about it. Stop talking about me like that! Actually, I just like "debating" with BiK. ;D FWIW: I've noticed that you can actually hear (R)uffda! 's ganglia twitching while he's having "debates" with BiK!

There some people on this board, who don't want to waste time with people who seem to like arguing. Some are Hawaii fans. Some are non-Hawaii fans. I've seen this phenomenon many times and not just on this board. I'm not going to condone their actions but please don't lump people who have not done so, even Hawaii fans. Us versus them is exactly what causes this kind of bickering.

Let me just give you a different perspective. Try looking at it from a Hawaii fan's perspective who doesn't like to argue and respects other teams and posters (and, yes, there are quite a few of us).
Everytime I come to this board I get to read A LOT of posts just like this thread or worse complaining about "those Hawaii fans" this and "those Hawaii fans" that. It is constant and one of my pet peeves. I always feel compelled to respond because it's rIdiculous. Just because there are a few vocal and prolific posters who like a particular team, they do not reflect on everyone who supports the same team. What's worse is reading posts putting down the Hawaii team/coach/players from posters from other states who are mad at one or two Hawaii posters and are trying to get to them.
I also have had problems with certain Hawaii fans, as well as a few other non-Hawaii fans, but at least I am able to separate them from the program they support and the other posters who support that team.
Here's my advice: If people have a problem with certain posters (including me! ;D), they should direct their digs/insults/sarcasm etc. at those posters and not at ALL the fans who happen to support the same team or the program they support.

Absolutely agree. Question though. If a non-Hawaii fan indicates that they don't think Hawaii team is competitive enough to beat the other top-5 teams and therefore should not be ranked/seeded in the top 5, do you as a Hawaii fan take that as a put down towards the Hawaii team or regcognize that as a general evaluation without any malice towards Wahine?

....unless, of course, it's phrased like, "You delusional Hawaii fans always think your team is so great. They could never beat a real volleyball team off their homecourt."

I'm sorry, I don't remember giving permission to just my GIF for your profile image. Maybe that 2nd screw you were implying is really gone. I reserve the 'delusional' comment for my therapist visits.

I know this question was directed to IslandgIrl, but I'm adding my dollars worth. On this board the line between that sort of general evaluation and pure putdowns is thin. The same person may have also said once, twice or many times something to this effect: "This is the first time the #1 team in the country won't be seeded." or "Don't get me wrong, I like Hawaii very much. But I don't think they belong in the top 25. In fact the bubble will burst in the first round." Statements like these are very provocative. Check your history, see if you are that kind of poster. When posters take delight in ridiculing the Wahine and their accomplishments, I thank God for BiK and = Idaho Boy® ! They will fire backl.

Maybe that 2nd screw you were implying is really gone. Hey! I never implied you had any screws missing or loose. I have no room to talk in that area. That was your friend, Pineapple.

I'm sorry, I just don't see the problem with someone stating this as their opinion. Just as I don't see a problem with anyone responding that they disagree with it without attacking the poster.

Wow... your distaste for me and BiK has made you misinterpret what I thought was a very nice point. Hawaii fans outnumber the rest of the vb fans in the world. Hence, there are more here. Hence, there are more people to stick up for their team. Hence, it's a worthless venture to try to put UH down, because they don't deserve it and their fans will defend them.
