That was one ugly win. Maryland lead, late, in all 5 sets. Oh well, I'll take it.

Uga finishes off GT 3-1 in front of 3,500 (big pre football crowd) and heads to conference play at 8-3.

Was a tale of two Arkansas teams at the SEC-ACC Challenge. They pretty much stunk up the joint vs GT, dropping 3 not particularly close sets. The Hogs are going to struggle defensively all year, so when the offense isn’t clicking either, it makes for an ugly match. Dirrigl played vs the Jackets, but very clearly was not 100%, and Arkansas went with the 5-1 with Rippee setting. Nothing at all looked good. One for the memory hole.
Today against NCSU, they decided to go back with a 6-2, and they rested Dirrigl, putting four newcomers on the pins (Fr Gillen and Cartwright at OH, RS Fr Garrett and JR/TR Wheeler at OPP. They still struggled a bit defensively, but the offense worked a lot better than it did the previous night. The Hogs got up 2-0, lost two pretty competitive sets to tie it up, and then pulled away at the end to win S5 15-10. The team hit .297 overall, both Cartwright and Gillen had 20+ kllls, and both middles hit at a pretty decent clip. It was not always a pretty match, but it was fun to watch.
The Hogs’ mascot this year should be a roller coaster. Buckle up.

Looks like UK stepped up their defense and blocking.

Robinson’s synopsis of the Miss State preseason is right on. Passing has been a problem and has created hitting problems for our OP hitters. Aleah can get a little too active at the net but is a welcome addition to last years team. Warden is really playing well at the right side as are our middles Deja and Cooks. Hopefully Zgunda returns at Libero to shore up our back row defense. Freshman have played well in the preseason as well. SEC play starts Friday and Kentucky awaits us in Louisville. I feel as the season progresses MSU will take down some teams. They have a gritty attitude and don’t give up easily. Hail State

Carolina, UK, UGA and Florida collectively sweep Clemson, Louisville, G Tech and FSU. I don't believe an ACC team won a set.

Auburn loses to Michigan State in 4, winning the first set and fighting back before losing a close fourth set. They then swept Western Michigan and IUPUI for their first 3 set wins. Different lineups have been tried, and they have improved since the beginning of the season. Play has become more spirited and tenacious of late. Hoping for the best!

Now that non conference play is in the books for the most part here is what the SEC looks like vs Top 25 (at the time of the match)
We are 6-16 with 7 of the 13 teams playing zero or only one top 25 team. Missouri beat #14 Michigan for the highest ranked win and Kentucky beat #15 USC at the time
Opinions on performance and scheduling of the SEC in non conference ??

Opinions on performance and scheduling of the SEC in non conference ?? I'd say that the scheduling outshines the performance. Most teams had a good mix of high or mid level Power 5 competition and winnable confidence matches. The performance could've been much better, especially from the Tier I and II teams. Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee and LSU all went through growing pains and struggled at times when we didn't expect them to. On the bright side, it seems like the majority of the conference has started to see some consistency in their level of play.
