Which of these BYU legends went to grad school at ASU and roomed with azvb at Tempe? Nada

She’s a setter, right? Probably has a good shot to play right away. Interesting someone can decide spring of their Junior year they can skip their senior year! She had to have this in the back of her mind, right? I mean wouldn’t she have had to go to summer school a couple of summers? LDS kids usually also attend a religious class during school hours for which they receive no credit, so that makes it even harder.

The setter and the Libero.

I know Jim McMahon was a famously non Morman at BYU. Are the majority of the athletes at BYU Mormon?

McMahon was kicked out of the school as soon as his eligibility was over. RJP as far as I know is still a student in good standing at the school.

They do get some non-Mormon athletes. Not sure of the percentages.

Who is your question directed to?

I believe there were three women on the team last year (including Roni) who are not members of the church. The program does make specific efforts to reach out to players who are not members, but it is hard to convince women to come to the university who have not been raised in that type of environment or want to commit to those standards.

So BYU is getting both of the Bower sisters this fall. The setter and the Libero. There are a few more of them coming down the pipe too IIRC I have a close friend that coached against them this year in high school ball. She thought the youngest one, the OH, is going to Minnesota. Kind of bummed I didn't get to watch her play this year in high school (I missed the state tourney). When I was at BYU the team had Caroline Steuer Bower OH, Gale Johnson, OH, Amy Steele MB, Annalena Smith, Setter, and Korie Rogers, RS. I think a bunch of them were All-Americans--sure made volleyball games fun.

Sorry...just texted my friend. She is not committed. Minnesota was simply at the the high school game. Big difference, my bad.

So, don't chop my head off for this but when I see BYU athletes and they're not White or Polynesian, I just assume they're not Mormon. Also, if they look White but they are from Europe or South America, I just assume they're not Mormon. Obviously, there are some White athletes at BYU who are not Mormon, e.g., RJP, but it's hard to guess with those peeps.
I'm thinking of the BYU football and men's volleyball teams, but my assumptions should also apply to all other sports teams at BYU.

I come from a Mormon family, and the Y would be too rigid for me. But then of course I am not an athlete with pro-potential. It would probably be a good place to focus 100% of your attention on Football or what have you without all of the counterproductive distractions that other collegiate athletes endure.
