Can't they take Watanabe off the roster? There's no sense in taking Ash if she's out for the season. I don't want her to be left out but if we can take a backup libero then we should. Besides are you sure Ong isn't on there. I only count eleven people who are likely to play besides Ong and that includes Raecene Woolford. No. They have already traveled her. She hurt her hand during the practice at Colorado. Besides, whoever they would fly in to help fill her spot would likely not see much playing time. The travel teams is: Kanoe, Cayley, Susie, Alicia, Tara, Teisa, Ashley, Raeceen, Victoria, Juliana, Kari, Melody.

I see, thanks for the information IB. I'm not a big fan of Woolford but she has gotten a lot better over the course of the season. I wish her the best. Come on Fotu, pass nails!!!

How about Cayley Thurlby for defense...I know Shoji always looks for ways in trying to get her in the lineup rotation somewhere...anyone with insights as to Cayley's defensive skills...Thanks.

This is going to suck... From what I have been seeing, Ashley was by far the best libero. Very quick reflexes and quick around the court. Teisa has spelled relief for Hittle at times so it will be a shame if Teisa would be the Libero should Hittle be in a funk. We'll see what happens.

This will totally reek. But I totally agree with you. Let's hope Hittle doesn't go on down to funky town. She's playing in front of her homeland, Colorado, so hopefully that will be incentive to show off what she can do. Good thing we have a deep roster. This is a set back but Na Wahine will pull something out of their sleeves to compensate for the loss.

She played well when her Mom came to her matches last time. Maybe it will happen again.

MAN!!! Things just haven't been going very well for the Wahine. Watanabe had a breakout year and it is unfortunate her season was cut short... Much thanks for a great season.
Fotu is a capable libero as we all know. She's a good passer and a good defender however she isn't as quick as Watanabe as far as scrambling or diving to get a ball. We'll have to see how that turns out.
Probably even more worse is that leaves UH with only four subs. If Hittle goes cold, I would expect Thurlby to come in on the right. She played a couple games on the right and she's the only one who I feel could swing on the right out ofr the backups. IF not Thurlby, Prince may be moved to the right and one of the middles will be put in.
Tomorrow will be interesting to say the least...

Ok, all you Wahine bashers- if the Wahine don't win the title this year, it's because Watanabe got hurt.

Heck, Watanabe should just do what George Roumain did his Freshman year (1996) at Pepperdine, and play in a soft cast. And Roumain didn't just play defense/backrow, he played all the way around - passing, hitting, blocking, serving.

If the Wahine get through this week, they'll have some time (a week)to consider their (and Ashley's) options.

The severity of the spiral break would require immediate surgery and a pin asap to have her in the soft-cast in time.

Very unfortunate for Watanabe and the Wahine - I hate hearing about things like this happening at any time of the season let alone just before the tournament starts.

Cayley Thurlby played RH in club or high school didn't she ? And didn't Shoji mention Cayley was competing for the RH position as well as setter at the beginning of the season ? If Fotu gotta take on the Libero position then Cayley could pull double duty as back up setter and RH. And didn't Melody and Kari also practice on the right side as well ?
