I looked at their list of commitments, and while there aren't that many to the big schools, setter Molly Wilson has committed to Washington. Also, this was McKenna Miller's club, and that worked out pretty well for BYU. As for Claire Little, she just led Vista Murrieta to a state championship in California's top division in her freshman season. She was the best player in the championship match, hitting 30-5-51 (.490). So she seems to be developing nicely. Molly moved to Coast. volleyballmag.com/2020-18s-club-preview/Fair enough. I'm not an expert on California club volleyball. My point was more about Claire Little anyway. Leading her school to its first-ever state championship in the top division in California while being easily the best player (at least during the match) as a freshman is impressive. Edit: I found her MaxPreps page with her season stats. She was also named to the MaxPreps All-American team.

The names I heard the most last spring when talking to the coaches I know were: Blyashov, Byrd, Jurevicius, Murray, and Helmers. No particular order, but those players came up a lot. Certainly not an exhaustive list, I'm sure there are other great pin hitters in that class, but I could tell they were excited about those girls in particular. For sure Murray!

Reminds me a lot of Sam Francis at that same age who is rumored to go to Stanford..Mendelson looks like another really good one to the super strong '23 class. I agree. She can hit from all 3 spots and looks comfortable doing it. Good lateral movement blocking as well. I think her best shot is in the middle where she can use her quickness and fluidity which many tall middles lack She also plays basketball. Wonder if she will want to play both in college (which seems rare these days) or if she’ll have to eventually pick. Someone (I assume her parents) run an Instagram recruiting account for her that’s more active than most college vball programs’ social media accounts. They should hire out. Will be interesting to see if she stays in-state or not.

Not the top Division... in CA, the top Division for state is Open and only 8-10 teams in CA were selected for Open this year. Claire Little’s HS Team wasn’t one of them. Julia Blyashov and Mele Corral-Blagojevich were the only two Contributing Freshmen in the Open Division. Fair enough. I'm not an expert on California club volleyball. SoCal has a lot of talent, not all of whom are lucky enough to play for a high school that is in contention for a CIF championship. That being said, there's this....=)

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Mia Delahoussaye....... if she continues to improve her skills and just plays more, she could go REALLY high in the senior aces. She’ll easily be a top 10 recruit. Reminds me of Deja McClendon.

California's system is a lot more complex than the smaller states I'm used to.

No worries. It’s definitely much more complex than it needs to be but that’s the start of a different topic!! 15s have their second qualifier on Sunday and most of the SoCal 2023 will be in this age group. The top 32 teams are split into multiple venues. I will be at ASC, but unfortunately top 4 overall seeds will be at Momentous (T-Street, Wave, etc.). Prep volleyball has Wave at overall #1 in nation for 15s. My kids team played both T-Street (overall #2) and Wave last year. Very different teams, but T-Street was stronger. I don't think T-Street's line up has changed much. Not sure on Wave. Both have some great players.

If you are a coach and have one spot left on your team you are going to make wise decisions. Two potential players put side by side....both are just as good offensively, but one has crazy defense and a wicked topspin serve. Seems like a no-brainer decision to me on which player that same coach would choose. well, duh. But your original post was saying that the emphasis is on more 6 rotation players (I don't think that's true, especially with the number of subs in the collegiate game). If a 6 ro player can score at the level of anyone else, then obviously you take her, the problem is many of the better handling OH's are NOT as good offensively.

interesting...I know she has possibly the best ball control in the class but she’s a phenomenal hitter... where’d you hear this? Found another 2023 player that looks interesting. Thoughts? Word is she’s being recruited by some top schools as a Libero. Also side note, the setter and MB from this same team are studs!
