To me the differences between this year's Hawai'i team and last year is Rado. Last year I often thought Hawaii would have been better off with van Tilburg on the RS. But everytime I've seen Rado this year, he's looked like an elite Opp (looking forward to see him play in person in Provo ... although guess I saw him as a serving sub in 17).

Downloaded the ESPN3 app but I cannot find the match.. =( Anyone know the link to the game, preferably a free one? =) You need to be subscriber of spectrum or other provider. Got ESPN3 for free for seven days on slingtv.com and I going to cancel subscription after tomorrow’s game.

i missed the first set but it looks like it was plagued with streaming issues. now watching the replay. i'm debating if i should go to the rematch tomorrow just to see if UCI can put up more competition. still rooting for UH, but it'd be nice to see more sets like the first one, especially when the anteaters are the #3 team in the country.

Watching the replay .... Will the stream/feed get better? Towards the end of the first set, a little before the 20s

It is Rado and his consistency. Last year he was so inconsistent UH fans often argued about bringing in Rattray more often for him. He put in a hellava lot of work in the off season. He isn't playing any games this year.lol

The part of Rado’s game that exploded is his serving. He is forcing teams into 4 men passing rotations. He was wild last season and had tons of SE. This season he is getting the ball in play.

Great back-and-forth first set. Both teams fought off set points on multiple occassions, both teams had servers pull through under pressure, and the momentum shifted from one team to the other and then back. I really thought we were in for a treat with a great match. Then about midway through the second set, Hawai'i tore UCI's heart right out of their chest. There was no single turning point or key play, but what looked like a good matchup almost instantly turned into a blowout. The only player on UCI's team who didn't get the memo that is was over at 9-15 in the third set was the redshirt on the bench in grey sweats who was yelling something after every play. It was disheartening to see UCI throw in the towel the way they did.
It will be interesting to see what adjustments Kniffin makes for tomorrow. Changing out opposites could be on the agenda. Running three rows of a 6-2 will likely happen in each set.
I was really impressed by Colotn Cowell in that match, not because of his dominant swings in the end but (1) because after an error he came back with more intensity on the next play and (2) he seemed to get more energetic as the match went on. David 'Freedie Mercury lookalike' Parker was impressive for UCI, and the main reason they were able to stay close in the first set. Joe Worsley set some pretty badass fives on the run.
The few takeaways for me were: (1) Officiating was well below the standard I have seen at other matches this season. The delayed four call, the being talked into touches, and the not being sure if contact with the head of a blocker counts as a first touch did not make the officiating crew look up to the challenge of calling a Big West match. (2) I'm not sure if UH is more talented than UCI or has more heart than UCI. It was the second one that stood out so much that it's hard to know about the first. (3) I am so glad Zarkovic stuck around after his son graduated. (4) That match had relatively few unforced errors. (5) PLEASE UCI, stop running cheerleaders out during time outs. You're the only school that does this, and it just didn't fit the event. But your band was very cool. (6) I was surprised there weren't more UH fans in attendance. It was strange to see Hawai'i playing an actual road match with a road crowd.

Most entertaining match I've seen this year, unfortunately my team was on the receiving end of the whoopin'. The difference with this Hawaii team IMO is their game-faces, confidence in each other and swagger. Joe was running that floor and Cowell was so potent on the bic in transition (and finding a way to put the ball away even through multiple blockers).
Hopefully, the off-site streaming company that ESPN uses makes their adjustments earlier. My phone and DMs were blowing up and I was trying to work the 1st set AND get in-house tech to work the issue! It was CHAOS.
Hopefully after working a day of p1440 beach vb my team can grit a "W" out tonight!
