Saint Mary’s begins the dual with a 2-0 lead." - @stanfordbeachvb Interesting. I thought the NCAA rules required them to forfeit #4 and #5. Perhaps that rule changed last year with the supposed sandbagging "rules". I will check.

Saint Mary’s begins the dual with a 2-0 lead." - @stanfordbeachvb Yeah, they are doing it wrong. Probably won't make a difference. I believe they should be forfeiting #4 and #5. And requiring pairs to move up to play at higher seeds. "Team that has an insufficient number of players. A team appearing with an insufficient number of players shall default matches at the bottom of the lineup. If the No. 1 doubles team is not available to compete, all doubles teams must move up one position. The No. 1 doubles match cannot be forfeited. The minimum number of players for a dual-meet match is six physically able players. A team that does not meet this minimum must forfeit the match." I know Andrew and don't think they are intentionally trying for an unfair advantage. Tough situation to be in, after already struggling thru a down season. Maybe they can get 3-4 indoor players to help finish.

Cammie Dorn’s hand was injured on the last point against LBSU. Spriggs was called in the net. I didn’t see any contact when Spriggs punched the ball down. But Dorn must have jammed or extended something. We we will see if she is back next week. USC really needs her at the 5s.

"Stanford was competing short-handed with senior Courtney Bowen already out for the season due to injury and freshmen Tori Ashkinos, Maddie Dailey, Melissa Daniel, Charlie Ekstrom and Jordan McKinney serving a one-game suspension for behavior detrimental to team culture." gostanford.com/news/2019/4/11/beach-volleyball-card-falls-to-gaels.aspxI was wondering about the forfeit rules. Maybe St. Mary's agreed to this? Doesn't really matter, since SMC swept.

#2 USC beginning to Peak at the Right Time p1440.com/news/usc-beginning-to-peak-at-the-right-time"In the first half, I kill them," she said bluntly, candidly. (...) "And then we’re going to stop, take ten days off, and come back for the second half, which is only three weeks." USC is now officially in that marvelous three-week period (...). "We’re playing good ball. We really are playing much better ball," said head coach Anna Collier.

Maybe St. Mary's agreed to this? Doesn't really matter, since SMC swept. The rule, as written, is to prevent stuff like this from being "gamed" when players are hurt, suspended, sick, etc. Basically, if players are out and you *HAD* to fill the lineup with scrubs, walk-ons, indoor-only, ghosts, etc. - the "order of ability" for scrubs would be in #4 and #5 flights, while the regular players would be required to move up to higher flights. Otherwise you could get some teams ALWAYS forfeiting pair #2 - so their true #2 pair plays vs opponents #3, and true #3 pair plays against opponent #4, etc. Give up a win at a high flight to have a big advantage at the lower ones. See FIU two years ago, who put weak pairs at #2 and stronger ones below.

Looking at the results from their previous meet it looks like their #1 and #3 pair were unavailable. They moved #2 to #1, #4 to #3.
So if they were to backfill 1-3 they would end up moving their 4+5 teams more than one slot each, which is against the other rules. So there is a rules conflict here, not sure if the coaches settled between themselves or got a quick ruling from the NCAA on it. Either way, I don't see any gaming here.
