Here's the "scoreboard" so far (coaches'/administrator's recent fates):
1) Jovan Vavic, usc water polo coach: fired this afternoon; arrested here in HI (where trojans are supposedly having a women's wp match)
2) Rudy Meredith, retired Yale women's soccer: cooperating witness; pleading guilty to wire fraud, honest services wire fraud, plus conspiracy to commit wire fraud
3) John Vandemoer, SU sailing coach: fired Tues. afternoon; pleading guilty to racketeering conspiracy (note: not an NCAA sport, hence no sanctions, therein)
4) Gordon Ernst, former Georgetown/ current Rhode Island tennis coach: on admin. leave from URI; charged w/ Federal racketeering conspiracy
5) Donna Heinel, trojan senior associate athletic director: fired Tuesday; Federal charge of racketeering conspiracy
6) Ali Khosroshahin/ Laura Janke, sc women's soccer coaches: fired by trojans in '13; charged with Federal racketeering conspiracy; A.K. funneled two recruits after termination to....
7) Jorge Salsedo, bruin soccer coach: placed on leave this afternoon; "will have no involvement with the...team while this matter is under review."; charged w/ racketeering conspiracy
8) Michael Center, UT tennis coach: arrested earlier Tues.; charged w/ conspiracy to commit mail fraud, plus honest services mail fraud
and #9; which 'hits' our sport: William Ferguson, Wake Forest volleyball coach: put on administrative leave by WF; charged w/ racketeering conspiracy
WHEW: I feel as if I need to take a shower - and a stiff drink - after reading...and reciting...the "lineup's" scorecard, here. I Always felt that Vavic dude was up to something/ no good!

Yes, Donna seemed to just add them to the coach's lists and then have the kids never show up for the team. But right around the time of Haley's firing, her scheme was falling apart because people were noticing. The sand VB girl that had never played VB being questioned and then a school questioning a water polo admit that never played water polo and was a terrible student. I think donna was likely panicking because people were also questioning why some parents made large non-rev sports donations with no connection to the sport. Does Mick really strike you as the whistleblowing type? You're really reaching to try to connect Mick's firing (I get it's a volleyball board, but still...) I do not know. I do know that between Sept and Dec 2017 all the of following occurred which could make Donna panic and get rid of anyone else that admin might ask about recent admits that seemed strange and had sports connected to them: 1. Donna puts a non VB player on the admit list for Sand VB 2. Donna gets pushback from coaches on sand admit that no one has ever heard of. 3. Donna does cover up work with coaches and with admit (to lie if coaches call her) on Sand VB non player 4. Donna puts a non VB player in the indoor list that has never played other than JV 5. Donna helps the second or third Giannullis daughter get into USC as a fake Crew athlete (november) 6. Marymount starts contacting USC admin about sketchy admission of several of its alum to USC as athletes when the kids NEVER played sports. 7. Donna was actively involved in how to cover up the Marymount inquiry in late 2017 and get it to go away. 8. Mick and Donna were not getting along, Donna's crimes were falling apart and she was having a hard time hiding it all AND there was an indoor "player" that had not been discovered yet by Haley. If Haley found out and exposed that to the admin, combined with all the smoke the admin already had Donna would be totally exposed. 9. The Bay School that the girl with the Indoor VB admit seemed concerned about her admission to USC. 10. The donation that the Indoor VB admit parents made to WBB was being investigated by USC because it did not make sense. Donna was coaching the parents (through the intermediary) on how to answer the calls from USC. 11. It would seem to make sense that with all this concern about the indoor VB recruit, that SOMEONE at USC would actually ask Mick Haley about her (when he got back from the NCAA tourney)... 12. Mick Haley, a coach that just completed an insanely successful year, gets fired shocking everyone. And Mick Haley gets fired by Donna BEFORE he can return to campus from the NCAA tourney -- which was right at the same time all of the above was going on... There is actually more than this (Marymount called on more than one "student athlete" Donna had given admission to) but I think anyone reading what happened in this short three month period could safely assume that Donna got rid of Mick because he had the potential to discover "the straw that would break the camel's back if exposed"

Not sure if he's the whistle-blowing type, but he strikes me as a pretty straight shooter who plays (played) by the rules. Heinel seems like she may have been up to her neck in the muck and probably knew that she'd get no help from Mick. I doubt Mick knew about this scandal and Heinel's involvement. But I don't doubt that the weight on Heinel led her to make very poor decisions - especially regarding Mick. The bigger question, in my mind, is where was Swann in all of this? Was he aware of what was happening? Did anyone complain to him? If he wasn't aware, was he guilty of running a hands-off, loosey-goosey department? If he was told and did nothing, when does that come out? There's no danger of me ever becoming a college president, but if I was running USC, I'd clean house. And Swann would have to be part of the cleaning. And a side-note to those making this all about USC - it's not. Yale, Georgetown, Wake Forest, Stanford, UCLA, Texas, and USD all got busted.

SHE RUBBED HIS FACE IN IT.

A couple points. I agree, if Haley found out he would have torpedoed Donna -- he would not put up with that garbage. Second, it is not all about USC. The other schools will come over the next weeks. Right now, the vast majority of the specific information is about USC and the info is shocking. Lastly, Swann likely did not know. There are emails about a school outing a fake athlete (water polo) that Swann was asking Donna about and getting lied to. Another prep school had complained to USC about this boy's admission (adding fuel to Marymount's complaints) and Donna lied to Swann. Also another parent that bribed Donna went to the Masters with Swann and asked Donna if he should mention their little "deal". She said no. That does not absolve Swann, he makes millions to run a department and is doing a really sh*&ty job at it. He should be fired.

USC is singlehandedly turning the PAC 12 from being the Conference of Champions to “Conference of Convicts”. USC became "The U" West Coast version? Ok, probably not that bad, but nevertheless a black eye.

I'm sure USC is a fine school, but...come on. I myself never even considered USC when I was a high schooler. To me, it was just the team that O.J. Simpson played for.

I still remember those O.J. Hertz commercials -- they were some of the best in the 70's when we all watched 3 networks. Later, O.J. ended up with Al Cowens on a freeway in one of the most celebrated "chases" in American history.

I would not call be tied with Michigan at #27 this year with US News and World Report's Best National Universities "No nothing". Only schools rated higher in the ACC were Duke and Notre Dame.

I am just grateful that neither Lexi Sun or Thayer Hall or their parents are involved. I've been lucky enough to have met Lexi's father and Thayer's mother; both incredibly nice people.

I can't believe you would cheat to get into Wake Forest. It's a dinky little no-nothing school. I hear many Wake Forest alum know that the phrase is actually "know-nothing."

This should also qualify as self dealing, right? They are charging them with "conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud" in this complaint but I would expect the treasury department will be calling all of them also because you could really throw the book at them. It is tax evasion, it tax fraud, it is money laundering, wire fraud etc. I think they will make an example of them. Some of these "pillars of the community" are real POS. They even lied to their precious (moron) children so their kids would think they actually got in on merit and that is how the FBI has locked cases against them because the FBI has the phone calls where the parents are admitting the fraud but scared their precious kid might find out.I don't think they lied because it never came up. Their kids were/are blindsided. There is so much wrong with this. Why the hell can't parents let their kids grow up in their own realities? If you fail, well, get up and try again. Same old story of parents getting TOO involved with their children's lives. Is it that they have no faith in their children's ability to build a life for themselves. Or does the parent feel reward when said child does well that they were apart of it and made it happen ?
