So would the Mountain East just carry on with 11 teams? Or would a little conference realignment be in order?

It has been known for the last few years in academic circles, that 10-15% of the colleges in the NE and midwest will close in the next 15 years due to smaller population of college aged individuals in these areas of the country and the over supply of colleges. The population as a whole is moving to the south and the west.
Sad but true.

The other issue is the constant drumbeat of information of how a liberal arts education is useless and thus new students are looking at other avenues because they've been told they can't find jobs with a liberal arts education.

Source on the official release of athletes? Coaches being contacted by current student athletes. Club director reaching g out on behalf of a previously committed 2019. Confirmed that there is an excessively large number of SA in the transfer portal (50+)

When I go out west I can go a hundred miles without seeing another car. I definitely missed the day when all of my northern neighbors loaded up the family truckster in search of a better life in Alabama.

Well okay, but by sheer population numbers the midwest and northeast remain the most populated section of the country.

Of the people I know, younger than retirement age, that moved to the south, a significant number(50% ish) ended up moving back. The problem they ran into was that after moving to the south, they discovered that meant they had to live there. If you grew up in the Northeast moving to the south can be a shock to the system.
