"We feel really good about what we accomplished tonight," Head Coach Tom Gardner said. "We had four variables to solve but fortunately, we had four equations, each were unique from the other, so I was confident my girls could handle that easily."

It must be different when you know every player on your squad is smarter than you.

Beavers also take second set 25-20. This would be a nice win for Caltech.

Occidental evens the match with 25-22 and 27-25 wins in 3 and 4. Occidental Head Coach Heather Collins is having a really good time. The general excitement level in the gym has amped up quite a bit.
I wonder if the exercisers upstairs get counted in the official attendance. I can't figure any other reason why they wouldn't cover the window with a curtain or something during matches.

Somebody messed up the focus on the camera. With both teams wearing black it's hard to tell who's who.

Caltech pulls out set 5 15-12. Big win makes 4 match wins in a row and 2 in conference. This is a nice step for the Beavers.

A short turnaround, the Beavers are on the road at Redlands at 2 PM PT (5 PM ET). The Beavers will look to avenge an October 1st (3-0) thrashing by the Bulldogs.

A short turnaround, the Beavers are on the road at Redlands at 2 PM PT (5 PM ET). The Beavers will look to avenge an October 1st (3-0) thrashing by the Bulldogs. Caltech was gassed by the middle of the 4th set. Down at the switch in the 5th they were able to gather themselves for a huge push led by Alexandra Klipfel, Lauren Li and Alexa Lauinger who were the key to this match in the 5th set First time in program history that they have won a season sweep of a opponent (Occidental) First time in program history they have won 2 SCIAC match's in a row. Lively crowd support from the Caltech student body really helped this club win. Redlands punked them at Caltech. Caltech did not play well. Tough turn around for a team that may feel the effects of a difficult and draining 5 game match. Caltech match's up well with Redlands. We shall see.

Beavers Outlast Oxy for First-Ever Season SweepPhoto: Bob Paz PASADENA (Oct. 18, 2019) – The Caltech volleyball team came out on the winning end of a marathon match on Friday evening, defeating Occidental College 3-2 (25-20, 25-20, 22-25, 25-27, 15-13) to secure the program's first-ever season sweep of a SCIAC opponent. The victory also marks the first time the Beavers have won back-to-back SCIAC games as well as the first 10-win season under Head Coach Tom Gardner. Kills from Klipfel and Richardson capped an 8-2 Caltech run to end the match and give the home team one of the biggest victories in the history of the program to date. Maruszko once again crossed 50 assists with 51 on Friday, while sophomore libero Megan Wang (Henderson, Nev. / Advanced Technologies Academy) led the defensive effort with a team-best 28 digs, one of three players to have at least 10. Gardner and the Beavers will look to make it an unprecedented three-straight SCIAC wins when they travel to the University of Redlands on Saturday, Oct. 19. www.gocaltech.com/sports/wvball/2019-20/releases/20191019hei4sl
