I didn’t think Hall was making that much salary wise...

Does Ljunquist have any experience in Beach Volleyball? This is going to be an interesting season.

I hope all the beach players stay but you never know. Some players may have signed with UH to play for Hall and may not be all that thrilled to play for Robyn/Angelica. Good thing Evan is still there so maybe Angelica will give Evan a bigger role this season since indoor and beach will overlap.

Holy sh*t. And the financial dominos from COVID begin to hit.
Yenno, I get Hall has had a lot of controversy amongst some posters regarding how players felt being coached by him (I.e. the exodus of players last year, and Martin, Scoles and Ozee all deciding to transfer), but the guy loved UH, the state, the program, and brought UH to to five national championship appearances and two 3rd place finishes in the NCAAs. He definitely gave his all...

I didn’t think Hall was making that much salary wise... He was. In the Star Advertiser, they said he was the lowest paid head coach (they quoted a range between $50k-$90k, I can't recall the exact numbers). Which questions, is UH even saving that much by laying Hall off? Every football assistant probably makes more than Hall.

Hawaii might be weaker on the beach without it's indoor players, but at least they will be able to play. Many of the smaller beach schools could actually struggle to field a full roster if indoor is moved to the spring and dual players are forced to choose one sport over the other. There are plenty of schools that would be under ten players without their indoor cross-overs. Sigh...

Nothing against the guy but if it was an option I would have rather dropped Baxter on the indoor side, have Hall replace him and have Hall still coach the beach team. I feel like that would have been the better solution that would keep experience, familiarity and chemistry on both sides (indoor/beach), without causing too drastic a change and uncertainty.

Because Robyn's philosophy and coaching styles differ from Jeff's which is why she did not retain him on her indoor staff. Although I'm saddened by Jeff's departure, having Ang head the beach team may help with recruiting for both indoor and beach.

Well, this was at a time that UH was separating the positions of indoor assistant/beach HC, positions both held by Hall at the time. I believe Hall did apply for Shoji's vacancy and he obviously didn't get it, don't think anyone expected he be retained at the time, as it usually goes, new coach, new staff. But again, since they were looking for a full time head coach it really was just a perfect situation/opporutnity for him to move over and solely focus on beach while Robyn could choose a staff of her choosing. Its just unfortunate times we're living in. Hoping the best for everyone.

There is no way Robyn will kick Kaleo Baxter to the curb in order to bring in Hall. Baxter is a good fit for this indoor team. I also don’t think if Hall took Baxter’s place that Hall will be able to coach beach. Baxter does a lot of administrative work/recruiting with him being the 3rd in line. Hall will have to take over a lot of Baxter’s administrative duties and work and I highly doubt a former associate HC for an indoor team and a former HC of a beach team would want a job as a third assistant. Would be better for Jeff to find work as an associate HC for a women team somewhere. He has a pretty good resume...coached women, men’s and beach. He will land some place for sure.
He coached indoor with the legendary Dave Shoji and also was on the staff with Charlie Wade on the men’s side. Went to 4 postseason with Hawaii’s beach team.

I'm not saying Robyn should have cut Baxter, that would never happen. Im going off the premise in which THE SCHOOL IS MAKING CUTS FOR FINANCIAL REASONS. I think it would make more sense getting rid of the "3rd in line" as you say, for the indoor team, than to get rid of the Head Coach ( First in line ) of the the beach team, that's the ultimate point I was trying to make. Obviously all positions are important why else would there be a position for it in the first place. I understand Baxter's job is important even for the second assistant, but I'm pretty sure the beach HEAD COACH job is an important one as well. I just thought keeping both head coaches and at least both of their right hand men/women while eliminating the 2nd assistant of the indoor team was a better option than getting rid of the Head coach of the beach. This solution for me at least keeps the most value and provides the least disruption collectively.
