There is no way Robyn will kick Kaleo Baxter to the curb in order to bring in Hall. Baxter is a good fit for this indoor team. I also don’t think if Hall took Baxter’s place that Hall will be able to coach beach. Baxter does a lot of administrative work/recruiting with him being the 3rd in line. Hall will have to take over a lot of Baxter’s administrative duties and work and I highly doubt a former associate HC for an indoor team and a former HC of a beach team would want a job as a third assistant. Would be better for Jeff to find work as an associate HC for a women team somewhere. He has a pretty good resume...coached women, men’s and beach. He will land some place for sure. He coached indoor with the legendary Dave Shoji and also was on the staff with Charlie Wade on the men’s side. Went to 4 postseason with Hawaii’s beach team. I'm not saying Robyn should have cut Baxter, that would never happen. Im going off the premise in which THE SCHOOL IS MAKING CUTS FOR FINANCIAL REASONS. I think it would make more sense getting rid of the "3rd in line" as you say, for the indoor team, than to get rid of the Head Coach ( First in line ) of the the beach team, that's the ultimate point I was trying to make. Obviously all positions are important why else would there be a position for it in the first place. I understand Baxter's job is important even for the second assistant, but I'm pretty sure the beach HEAD COACH job is an important one as well. I just thought keeping both head coaches and at least both of their right hand men/women while eliminating the 2nd assistant of the indoor team was a better option than getting rid of the Head coach of the beach. This solution for me at least keeps the most value and provides the least disruption collectively. It also seems that they were bringing both vb programs (indoor and beach) under one "umbrella" overseen by Robyn. If that is the case, I am sure Robyn had a say in the personnel. Also, in many ways, indoor still trumps beach.

I am with the UH athletic director in this one that ultimately the most value is giving Coach Ang a much needed raise ( with the added workload as beach head coach) to keep her locked up long term at UH at a fraction of Hall’s salary. I have full trust that Coach Ang will keep the beach team on the same competitive level as Jeff Hall. Indoor and Beach recruiting will now be intertwined and on the same page and it will help both programs as more top level recruits are seeking to play both sports. Wahine beach players will get high level coaching from Ljungqvist and Silberstein.

I'm sure it does help indoor for the reasons you mention, but very doubtful this helps beach. Beach has scores of 2nd tier programs with indoor coaches trying to make it work with indoor players. You only get so far twith that, until the team runs up against dedicated, experienced beach players, that have roughly the same athleticism. Hawaii commits did really well this weekend at AAU 18U National Championships., beating teams with players committed to USC, UCLA, Stanford, etc. Meagan Widener, Portia Sherman, and Arianna Franklin all finished in the top eight. IMO this makes Hawaii less appealing, but perhaps not enough to have them change.

Holy sh*t. And the financial dominos from COVID begin to hit. Yenno, I get Hall has had a lot of controversy amongst some posters regarding how players felt being coached by him (I.e. the exodus of players last year, and Martin, Scoles and Ozee all deciding to transfer), but the guy loved UH, the state, the program, and brought UH to to five national championship appearances and two 3rd place finishes in the NCAAs. He definitely gave his all... Wait Martin transferred? I thought she graduated and decided to go pro... oh well, do you happen to know which Uni she decided to attend? Can't find it anywhere.
Edit: I wonder if Homayun will return as vol. coach.

I don't think Morgan transferred. Sounds like she will graduate or graduated and will be going forward on the AVP and FIVB tours. hawaiiathletics.com/feature/my_story_morgan_martin

Already mentioned on the indoor forum but Jaclyn Matias (5'9") out of Punahou has committed to the indoor and beach team. One of the top beach players in the state, so she makes five recruits for the SandBows for 2022.

She will do well. It is strange how many girls are finding a way to continue to play at the undergraduate level with young college girls when they should move on to the pros. There should be limitations to this so the appropriate age athletes can compete.

Aloha, wanted to clear up some of the misconceptions about the SandBows. Jeff Hall was never on Ah Mow's staff so he was never "not retained." Hall was on Charlie Wade's staff as associate head coach (2011-14) then Dave Shoji's staff as the associate head coach (2015-16). One season he and Ah Mow were on the same Wahine staff (2015). Like Scott Wong before him, Hall doubled up as an indoor assistant and head beach coach for two seasons then became the first full-time beach coach. Ah Mow left in spring of 2016 and returned as the head women's coach for fall 2017. Yes, Hall applied for the Wahine indoor position, as did Wade. UH went with Ah Mow. Hall being let go was financial. Indoor and beach are being combined with Ah Mow overseeing both. Angelica Ljungqvist, who has plenty of beach playing experience, will be both associate indoor and head beach, something that both Wong and Hall were doing in the early years of the SandBows. Have written about the conflict that Ljungqvist may have when the two teams overlap. When that happens beach assistant Evan Silberstein will oversee the SandBows. Regarding the "transfers" from the 2020 SandBows whose season got cut short. Julia Scoles was never going to stay for another season (2021). She was graduating and UH did not have the master's program she wanted. USC did. Same thing with Amy Ozee. She graduated this past spring with a business marketing degree. She is at Cal Poly as a grad student pursing a masters of science in quantitative economics. Morgan Martin graduated this past spring, playing AVP. You can see some of her influence on the latest SandBows commits. She has coached at Tamarack VB, where both Cami Loker and Megan Widener play.
