I have expressed concerns in the past about the lack of youth on the men's side, particularly on being able to see ones that may have a future. I still think it's pretty bad. There are however been some players kind of tinkering through. One thing is for sure is the AVP is by far the deepest its been since Sun took over. It is really hard for some of these young players to get points and break through. One things for certain, I have paid more attention to the qualifiers and the young ones more than I ever have, just to see if I can find anyone that might have some raw talent to be something.
Anyone paying attention one a take a stab at some of the youth 25-under men who may have a future on the FIVB?
Blockers Troy Field we all know about Andy Benesh showed some elite blocking, and at 6'9" you automatically have to be intrigued at his potential. His blocking was impressive and really controlled their matches. Brian Miller - I'm not too sure about him in the little I did see. Logan Webber - I've heard you guys talk about him the most lately, but he can't seem to break through. I'm a little curious why some of the better qualifiers aren't calling him. Evan Cory - He's explosive but undersized
Defenders Eric Beranek Partain Bros Hagen Smith
Who else?
I am not so sure about the future of the defenders at all. It will work itself out and someone always emerges and this doesn't include any possible indoor players/late bloomers, but I'm not sure at the moment if I would consider any one of those guys with the potential to be International players but it's hard to say.

Yeah, all those defenders are small. I'm going left field for my 1st name. Peter Connole, I'd actually like to see him play defense. He's big at 6'7, but very agile. You put him behind one of the bigger blockers you listed, I think he could manage.
Jake Urrutia is a young big defender, I didn't watch too much to really have a opinion. I was really hoping Kyle Friend was going to make a big jump playing with Duncan as a defender, not sure he's there yet.
The lefty Partain Bro has a shot, he's a bit bigger and also a right side which makes it easier to pair.
I'd love to see one or both of the Sander brothers to get into beach, you never know who could translate from indoor. Kessel was another I had hopes for.

The men and women are definitely going two different paths right now. We will see the future top women years down the line, with them dominating juniors and then college beach- all before they are true professionals. Yea, a few indoors studs can easily transition over, but for the most part we will see these athletes years out.
On the other hand, men will be the same old story. Best prospects are probably the OH's(or some other positions) who are done with their college and/or pro careers and hold the ball control skills that transition easily that they have an interest in beach. We'll still continue to see the men mature to their beach volleyball peaks in the very late 20's, early 30's.

Friend just isn't explosive enough as an athlete, marginal at best, only asset is his size. Taller Partain is indeed one to keep your eye on as well, much higher potential with him than the other.

I haven't been that impressed with Friend either, but I also haven't seen very much of him. He's also like 30 years old so he may round into form at some point but I'm not really sure where his ceiling is. He might just need the right partner too.
I was really hoping for Kessel too, but it doesn't sound like he has any ambitions for beach any time soon with his indoor career.

I haven't watched Steven Roschitz and Silla Tucker play much, they're 26 & 24 respectively.
Roschitz with Connole beat both Adam/Andy and the McK's in NYC Q this year, which is pretty good.
The young kid from FL (19y.o.) has a chance too, got to find a good partner though, Garrett Peterson.

19 year old Kacey Losik from Santa Cruz is someone to watch. They served his blocker all Hermosa long, so that starts to tell you something. VERY Sharp cutty and solid passer, etc.

Yeah, Wyatt Harrison (20 yrs also) and yeah, not too tall (didn't see stat on him in BVDB), but they could have gone through a bit further with a few changes...Great guys.

Partain the greater reminds me a little of Dave Swatik. Both very advanced as young players but mostly in ball skills rather than physicality. Dave scored a bunch off KK/KS as a high school senior I think, then it took him a long time to develop due to physical limits (shorter, not great jump, etc.) I think if Partain succeeds it will be on a similar path, but in those days Whitty was a giant at 6'7 and there was a big court to hit into

He's skinny HS kid. His explosiveness from when he qualified at age 15 to now has come leaps and bounds. As it should. Once his body fully matures I think he gets to the point at least where it’s not a limitation. He’s also very long for his height. Really long arms. Color me optimistic.

I see the kid Timothy Brewster playing a few FIVBs with Boag, he's 19 too.

travismewhirter did a sandcast & write up Benesh: volleyballmag.com/sandcast-073119/“I saw him serve a ball, get to the net, get four blocks in a row, get an ace, and I was like ‘Who is this kid? Let’s see if he can set,’” Adam Roberts, Benesh’s current partner, said on SANDCAST: Beach Volleyball with Tri Bourne and Travis Mewhirter. “Standard big guy stuff, right? They serve Cole and he puts up a juicy set and I’m like ‘Man! What is his name? What is his number? I’m gonna tuck that one away.’”

Of course I lead the Evan Cory fan club but one thing about his game is his hand setting and jump serve are both very very good for a guy who plays beach between college indoor seasons. Also has the ball skills and passing of an Outside hitter. Most of his development will be the transition game and other experience related growth aspects.
