Can anyone help out with results from yesterday’s Sachem North tournament? With how strong Long Island D1 looks to be this year, probably was going to be the best regular season tournament in the state this year.

Can anyone help out with results from yesterday’s Sachem North tournament? With how strong Long Island D1 looks to be this year, probably was going to be the best regular season tournament in the state this year. Sachem North defeated Smithtown West in the 1 game final (All playoff games were 1 to 25) Smithtown West beat Shen to get there The other 3 teams in the playoffs I think were Massapequa, Connetquot, maybe ESM.

Can anyone help out with results from yesterday’s Sachem North tournament? With how strong Long Island D1 looks to be this year, probably was going to be the best regular season tournament in the state this year. Sachem North rolled through this one, only dropped one set in a pool play split with Shenendahoah from Section 3. Credit to Sachem North's coaches and parents for getting the tournament completed on time (needed to get out of the gym in time for a 7pm Homecoming Dance). But anyways, Sachem proved why they're the #1 team in NYS, on a side note where does Shen fall with the rest of upstate NY this year? No offense, but we don't hear about you guys much (just like you don't hear about us). North feels really confident they will get out of a deep Long Island field this year, and it would be interesting to see how they match up with the rest of the state. Would have posted this earlier, but had to go through account approval process. This tournament was 9/21. SACHEM CLASSIC (September 21st) Pool play 2 sets to 25, cap at 30 Pool A1. Sachem North (7-1) 2. Shenendahoah (7-1) 3-5 (in order) - Plainview JFK, Long Beach, Ward Melville Pool B1. Smithtown West (5-3) 2. ESM (5-3) 3-5 (in order) - Sachem East, Sachem North Reserves/2's Team, Bellmore JFK Pool C
1. Connetquot (7-1) 2. Massapequa (6-2) 3-5 (in order) - Northport, Center Moriches, Smithtown East Quarterfinals - 1 SetSachem North def Eastport-South Manor Smithtown West def Connetquot Shen def Massapequa Semifinals - 1 SetSmithtown West def Shen Sachem North (Bye - Highest Remaining Seed) Final - 1 Set
Sachem North def Smithtown West Top 3 1. Sachem North (9-1) 2. Smithtown West (7-4) 3. Shenendahoah (8-2)

Pool B (2 Sets to 25) 1. Shen (6-0, +69) 2. Clarkstown South (3-3, -2) 3. Saratoga Springs (3-3, -9) 4. Niskayuna (0-6, -58)
Silver Bracket Guilderland def Niskayuna (2-1) Shaker def Guilderland (2-1)

Semifinals BHBL def Suffern (25-16, 30-28) Shen def Bethlehem (25-20, 25-11)
Finals Shen def BHBL (25-18, 25-18)
1. Shen (12-0, +132) 2. BHBL (10-2, +70) 3. Bethlehem (5-5, +13) 3. Suffern (5-5, +2) 5. Clarkstown South (3-5, -12) 5. Baldwinsville (3-5, -12) 5. Saratoga Springs (3-5, -31) 5. Colonie (3-5, -45) 9. Shaker (4-5) 10. Guilderland (3-9) 11. Niskayuna (1-8)
Shen cruised yesterday, won all 12 sets they played. Not a traditional Shen team (very good defense/serve receive/serving). They are undefeated in Section 2 play, and have yet to drop a set in Section 2.
BHBL looks like a team that could do some damage in November in Division 2. BHBL returns 5 starters from last years team that made the D2 state final. Looked really good all day and just ran into a good Shen team at the end of the day. Have recorded big wins this year over Bethlehem (25-16, 25-19, 25-23) and at the Victor Tournament with a convincing win over Victor in the semis. Only two losses have come against Shen this year (27-25, 25-18, 25-13) and (25-18, 25-18).
Overall, the level of play in Section 2 is definitely going up, new coaches in the section over the past few years have really increased the level of play. Same could be said for the Suffern team out of section 1, most athletic team in the building.

How important is your mother's quality of spaghetti and meatballs in comparison to vertical jump in New York, asking for my friends Jimmy, Marco, Luigi, Giovanni, and Giuseppe.

This week's notable matches (Monday 10/7-Saturday 10/12)
Penfield Tournament - Saturday 10/12 ***Brockport, Burnt Hills, Canisius, Churchville-Chili, Eastridge, Eden, Gilman (MD), Fairport, Frontier, Jamesville-DeWitt, Oswego, Pavilion, Penfield, Shen, Victor, Webster-Schroeder
Section 2 - Shenendehowa (10-0) @ Bethlehem (7-2) (Monday 10/7 at 5:30pm) Section 6 - West Seneca East (10-2) @ Eden (7-0) (Tuesday 10/8 at 7:00pm) Section 8 - Massapequa (7-2) @ Long Beach (8-2) (Thursday 10/10 at 6:15pm) Section 11 - Connetquot (7-1) @ Lindenhurst (6-1) (Thursday 10/10 at 6:15pm)
Outside of Section 11 it's a pretty slow week for league matches, but the Penfield Tournament is a top 3 tournament in the state, along with the Eden Can-Am and Sachem North tournaments. 4 of the last 6 state champions (D1 and D2 combined) have played at the Penfield Tournament.

How does NY have playoffs bracket? In FL, everyone is in same class and only one “true” state champion. nysphsaa.org/ADs-Coaches/ClassificationsKeep in mind NY state is a strong union state, communities are fiercely independent and our state govt hasn't been allowed to gut public education like many states in the USA. Therefore we have a large number of school districts and not county or regional districts 2 Classes based on 9th-11th numbers. Divison I 951- Up Divison II 950- under Its an interesting breakoff and one that is imbalanced , certainly in some Sections. EX. Section VI (Buffalo-Western New York) 25 D II Schools and only 7 D I schools. The classification used to be 800 up/down. Lacrosse has 3 classifications and I expect Boys Volleyball to go this route soon The REALLY good news is we added 5 new Buffalo City Schools in Boys Volleyball......couple that with the USA/Motor creation of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams....it may help increase exposure to the inner city and athletes of color that know nothing of this sport. My bet is that if the Section 2 and 3 small schools move that play in the winter complete the move to the fall season, the state will immediately go to 3 classifications. All schools that play in the winter out in these parts are Classes B-D in other sports, and have BEDS numbers ranging from 100-600. Biggest reasons for not making the switch, gym space/coaches/logistics, and fears about losing multi-sport athletes that already play fall sports. With the BEDS enrollment numbers, here's what a three class setup could look like Class A (Current Division 1) - 1050+, up from 950+ Class B - 501-1049 Class C - 500 and below

You would have like 5 schools in section 5 and section 6 that would be class A some years. If three classes, they’d have to look to have some balance. Right now Section 6 has 7 class A schools (Currently 951 up) and like 24 D2 teams. I know sections vary, but 1050 would be tough for sections 5 and 6 where the schools are smaller.

Are sections 2 and 3 considering that move to the fall?

I also heard that the state is considering moving the D1 cutoff number to 900 for next year. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this?
