West lost 3-1 on a night where seniors started game 1 and then played starters games 2 through 4. I don’t think it will be easy, but I don’t think it’s as impossible as you make it sound. You are right, they are more experienced, but youthful power when it hits its stride can do damage. Those three teams (Eden, GI, WSW) are all very good.

West and GI are in D2A. Eden is in D2B. D2A vs D2B in crossover.

Even if West gets through Grand Island (which is very slim chance ), Eden will still beat them because this happened to Eden last year and nothing changed on Eden’s side. (Note that Eden’s Game vs West wasn’t Senior Night last year). West isn’t the team that everyone thinks they are. Case to be, Random team can just upset West out of nowhere like how Hamburg did To Sweet Home last year.

This is a MUCH different West team than in years past. I think most coaches would agree with that sentiment. Very big and very young. Much improved over last years squad who was never really in contention to begin with. What you’re seeing is a team with a lot of talent that is young and learning to navigate tough matches. Not many teams start 4 sophomores. Apples and oranges compared to last year. I’m not disagreeing that the other two mentioned teams aren’t better. Hence the rankings of Grand Island at #4, Eden at #5, and West at #6 in WNY coaches poll. I think you’re shortchanging WSW just a bit. It’s a team that is learning to compete with older more experienced teams. To overlook them simply because of inexperience would be a mistake IMO. This isn’t an argument that West is as good or better than either of those teams, it’s a matter that they ARE capable of beating these teams. But hey, that’s why they play the games right?
I’m also not sure what bearing last years west/Eden matchup has on this year? Losing 3-0 to that Eden team that was LOADED last year has zero bearing on this year. I find that confusing. You are aware they graduated a handful of incredibly talented and experienced seniors? While still a very good team this is not the Eden team of last year

West, even with the team they have now isn’t that impressive because experience wins at the end. You can have the tall and bouncers but it all relies on intelligence at the long run and if they can’t beat Eden (which has more court intelligence due to the experience they have) then safely to say that this West team isn’t ready to be a “State Caliber” team.

I think we are in full agreement that there is a gap in experience and that is significant. My point was that writing off a very big athletic team that has moments of greatness could be a dangerous move. Those boys can play, just learning to sustain and develop the higher court IQ. I’ve been around long enough to see teams like this upset more experienced teams. I think the Grand Island match is a good test for both teams. Those sophomores will figure it out. It may be in November maybe next year, but they will develop that part of the game. That’s the risk of putting 4 sophomores on the court. If they pull it off it would be awesome. If they don’t it doesn’t subtract from the fact that they are a fun team to watch when they are playing with confidence and momentum. Those things are really hard to instill in a very young team. I’d like to see these three teams really have some barn burners to make it out. Maybe it happens, maybe it doesn’t. I happen to think WSW is a pretty solid team all things considered, but of course I’m a bit bias.

I think we all should talk about Zach Schiender transferring to Daemem for a moment and rethinking the debate about the top 3 players from WNY last year. Just saying.

I think There’s more to that story than what we may think or be hearing through the rumor mill. I don’t know much about why he left...so I don’t want to speculate. He was still a hell of a player.

I was given confirmation that one, he left based on personal reasons three weeks in and two, my friend from Daemen confirmed that he is transferring.

Oh yeah. I knew he was transferring. I just don’t want to speculate on reasons. That’s a hard decision to make no matter who you are. Great pick up for Donny though!

Notable matches this week (Monday 10/14-Saturday 10/20) Orchard Park Tournament (Saturday 10/20)Can anyone out confirm who will be there? CNS Tri-Match (Saturday 10/20)Penfield, Shen @ CNS, starts at 12:00 on Saturday 10/20). Not sure of the order of matches, or exact times. Penfield is currently ranked #3 in the state, Shen is #4, and CNS is #5. Shen and CNS are undefeated in regulation matches. Section 5 - Fairport @ Victor (Thursday 10/17 @ 6:30pm) Section 6 - Eden @ West Seneca West (Wednesday 10/16 @ 6:30pm) Another slow week, but the Orchard Park tournament should be very competitive as Section VI is deep this season. The CNS tri-match looks like it will be very competitive with the 3rd, 4th, 5th ranked teams in the state. Some REALLY interesting results from this week's matches Orchard Park Tournament
Semifinals - Grand Island def St. Joe's (25-23, 25-19) Semifinals - Clarence def Orchard Park (25-21, 25-22) Finals - Grand Island def Clarence (21-25, 34-32, 15-8) CNS Tri-Match

In Puerto Rico Canisius lost to host San Ignacio in 3 in the Finals.
Canisius beat Mcquaid in the semis but McQuaid may have lost their best player(arguably the or one of the best in the State) for a while due to injury. Fingers crossed that is not the case.
