Last night was Big Eight Conference tournament. Each team played 3 matches (same format as Classic 8). Championship: Middleton def Madison Memorial 25-19, 25-15, 25-17 3rd Place: Madison West def Madison LaFollette 25-10, 25-17, 25-21 5th Place: Fort def Madison Edgewood 25-20, 25-18, 25-18 7th Place: Madison East def Beloit 25-21, 25-17, 22-25, 29-27
Also, I never saw the pools for Homestead Invite. And many of us are curious how the Greater Metro goes today. With coaches seeding all 8 teams at the state tournament, and not just top 4 and then a random draw, I would think coaches would play starters not to risk a loss this late in the season.

I too would think that coaches will play to win, but I just heard of a kid from Pius I think who crashed into the bleachers last week and suffered a concussion and I remember Matt Klausen from BEast diving for a ball vs West Allis Hale in a blowout sectional semifinal win, could have been a regional match, and breaking his hand or wrist effectively ending the State run for that team. Hard to tell boys to take it easy. Two years ago the O1 from Pius broke or severely sprained his ankle right before the sectional semis effectively ending the state run of that very talented team. Even if one of the Easts wins greater metro I don't see them getting a 1-4 seed. You would think that GTown and MUHS will be 2-3 or 3-2 depending on how today ends, so what if any difference does it make. I could see coaches using the day to reward hard work in practice and play boys who don't normally play. Last week at WF Bay, BEast coach pulled all his seniors after winning the first round of consolation. The team lost to TWest in the consolation finals but they had a total blast playing and the senior were into it as well.

And one more data point on Section 8. The Pius win over Beast at WF Bay was 15-13 in the third, and Szews who had 14 kills and 14 digs in a three set win vs Kettle Moraine on Tuesday, did not play due to illness. A win is a win. But some wins are more meaningful than others. .

BEast wins set 2 25-19 ish. This set most of the starters played. But, the Starting setter for MUHS in street clothes. So is one of the senior middles, but MUHS has 3 Middles that play. And Luke Heinan is setting and setting well. Beast playing well.
GTown survived a set point to win 26-24 both teams playing well

MUHS wins set 4 25-18 ish
MUHS wins set 5 15-8.
Testament to the program that MUHS can plug in players and compete at a very high level. Talked to one of the parents. Minor car accident and the MUHS boys were held out today to be safe.

MUHS 25-20. The back up setter for MUHS is really good. Set for a sting team two years ago, did not play club last year. Quick accurate makes good decisions. Sully may have controversy at the setting position. And MUHS not missing a beat in the middle.
