There are often rules about it. Whether the school's rules are a legal thing or just for looks I'm not sure. Legally, jobs must be publicly posted and qualified applicants are to be considered, not necessarily interviewed... HR stuff. ---------- The Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1972. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is responsible for enforcing federal laws that make it illegal to discriminate against a job applicant or an employee because of the person's race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity, and sexual orientation), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information. Source: www.eeoc.gov/eeoc/That is not a legal requirement. People are promoted within a company all the time. (as promoting an assistant to a head). There is no requirement to post these positions. if you are bringing people in from the outside...yes, you need to post.

I wonder how many schools are going to get into July with incomplete staffs?
Seems like hiring will be a difficult task with schools shut down.

It looks like Ohio Valley in WV has posted for a Head Coach, even though on their Staff Directory has the same one listed-- but it looks like they are also looking for an Athletic Director. This is would be a tough hire-- limited resources, low enrollment, very strict atomosphere. www.ovu.edu/employment

South Carolina state university is looking for a HC. Are they? Rumor is they are under 900 students on campus and may not have athletics because they can’t afford it anymore. Again 100% rumor

Again 100% rumor I really don't see universities cutting athletics due to dropping enrollment. Many universities (even some at the D1 level) use athletics to help drive enrollment. SC State has about 300 athletes. Dropping athletics would mean shutting down the university.

If they cut academics, then they can't pretend to be in the university business.
