Official Texas summation of the signing class. Interesting read on the background of the players and of course, we got the Gatorade players of the year (for their state) in: Missouri and Florida, as well as Ms. Kentucky volleyball.
Note that the article has a typo stating Texas signed 3 players, when they signed 5.

When redshirting makes sense, I'm in favor of it. While Tomkinson could surprise as a true freshman, I think there's too much depth and experience ahead of her on the right side to be a significant contributor in year one. Her being left-handed also limits her position options across the net.

I’m excited to see our three early enrollees grow this spring (while also playing sand)!
Byrd has so much potential but I haven’t seen her play against top competition yet! But the athleticism is there for sure.
I admittedly haven’t seen much of Helmers, but have heard great things about size and out-of-system hitting from people who have!
Swindle is probably the player I’m most excited for in this class. I think she will be starter from day 1 she’s on campus. Her touch and location have been top notch in matches I’ve seen.

she quit high school volleyball this year Yeah, that coach was a jerk and didn’t seem to take her concussion seriously. I’m glad she quit. "Ron Kordes is a jerk" is certainly a new take on VT. Purely asking out of curiosity -- did I miss something that was public knowledge that pointed to this conclusion? Helmers didn't play for like 6-8 matches after getting concussed by Wilson at natties and then she came back in the state post-season tourney. I've heard she decided she "wasn't having fun anymore" which is a totally valid reason (and honestly she doesn't even need to supply a reason IMO), but this narrative is new to me. FWIW, I think the "public" in Kentucky was a little surprised by her decision which may have led to some "rumors", since Assumption was voted pre-season #1 in the nation. Obviously without their best OH, they were still really good, but ultimately "state semifinals" good, not national champion good. I also think it's well-known that Kordes pushes hard on players, but there's a reason that almost every high-level player in the Louisville area chooses to play for him -- they want to get better. The speculation / uncertainty was more around "If not handling Kordes well, is Texas the best place for her?" Because it's pretty well-known that Elliot is also demanding and TX has very high expectations. I hadn't heard the "Kordes doesn't take concussions seriously" take, and it's surprising to see this being posted publicly. LMK if I missed something. |

Before the Baylor game JE said: "We have a recruit visiting tonight as well as the 2023 and 2024 recruits, so let's show how great Gregory can be" I was scanning the section where recruits usually sit. In the past, during warmups, you see recruits sitting on the team bench while the players are warming up. But since we were in the Point Texas club, by the time we got into our seats I couldn't spot any "civilians" sitting on the bench. Here is a picture of 3 of the 2023 recruits (Green) and possibly (Pink) a future 2024 recruit? (highly unlikely because she was in the Point Texas club and having recruits talk to a mass of Longhorn fans would be a no-no, I think): I believe left-to-right it's: Tompkinson, Bunton, Swindle But here is a more intriguing candidate for a recruit: She had the requisites I've seen in past recruits: 1. She's wearing basic Texas merch 2. She left the arena with a bag of Texas merch, as if it were handed to her by the staff 3. She didn't cheer or do the standard Texas things like hook-em 4. Didn't pay 100% attention to the game (her Dad did), was looking down on her phone half the time Or maybe I don't know what I'm talking about! Thoughts anyone?
Candidate 1 was very tall and slender. Candidate was short, almost shorter than me!
