It will be interesting to see what position the 4th player they offer would be if they decide to use it for a 2025 player. Sir, this is an Arby's Texas recruiting thread. Shush. It's relevant. Aside from Stanford, Nebraska is probably our strongest competition in terms of going after the same recruits. Lots of times NE recruits say their top choices were NE or Texas, and the availability of scholarships at either school (ahem, Choboy) is a major factor.

Watching the Nebraska spring match, they mentioned that Murray came down to Texas and Nebraska. I wonder which scholarship player that's currently on the team would've not joined the team had Murray committed to Texas. I imagine had that happened, Wenaas wouldn't have transferred in either.

I agree that she is not as highly ranked as the typical Texas front row recruit. However on NIL signing day, she was announced with the other four signees. From experience, incoming non-scholarship players (she would be that if she doesn't have a ship for her first year) typically haven't the requirements necessary for the school to "announce" them. The only exception to this in recent times is Riley Heinrich who was announced with Cabello, Madison Williams, etc. on the 2020 signing day. Heinrich was the valedictorian of her high school so it's possible that her exceptional academic record allowed her to be accepted to UT that earlier. Also Tomkinson is a good enough prospect that she likely would be getting offers from at least Top 25 schools, so she almost certainly be turning down four year full rides from very good programs if we weren't offering her a four year full ride.

Well, currently Nebraska is cleaning our clock in high school recruiting. I mean, they're cleaning everyone's clock (CLOCK, I said CLOCK!). Fortunately Texas hit the jackpot last year with the portal, and it wasn't too bad the year before with SKT or this year with Wenaas and Barnes, either. And it's not like the last two recruiting classes have been disappointing. I love the players we've brought in. But Nebraska high school recruiting for the last two classes has been next level stuff.

Most schools were, of course.

Most schools were, of course. Yes, because she did make an official visit to Texas. It's possible that it was a different situation with Texas. I have difficulty believing that Vic Schaeffer (WBB HC) would have allowed Mendelson to spend all off-season in volleyball as I've concluded that she does at Nebraska.

So do we feel pretty good about Spears in 2025? Has anyone heard who might be “leaning Texas”?
We probably would want a S, L, and OH I’m thinking. If Spears is the OH (crossing my fingers), who would be the S and L? Glass and Leimbach?

Mendelson is a terrible fit for Schaefer’s pressing defense. I don’t see how that was ever going to work. She is a gifted post player, so not trying to bag on her. She’s just not the type Schaefer would normally recruit. That said, Elliott has talked about how he and Schaefer worked with one another to put a compelling package together, so they were trying to bring her in.
