I've heard about 958 different versions of Saige's last name (sometimes different versions from the same announcer in the same game). Paul Sunderland is the only one who seems to have it down. Torres is not that difficult.

Some interesting news in regards to recruiting and the future of players. I attended the Point Texas room where Jerritt made an appearance. I think he usually shows up twice a year. Eric Sullivan NEVER attends (must be written in his contract).
1. Confirmed that Bri and Sydney are going to be classified as seniors. What this means is this is definitely their last year at Texas, even though both of them each have a Covid bonus year
2. Was told by Molly Phillips just today that she'll be coming back for her next TWO YEARS
3. Was asked "Transfer portal, what can you say about that?" Jerritt hesitated for half a second and then said yes that Cobello was in the portal, but has rejoined the team for the rest of the year. They're working on helping her find a school as well as giving her additional "setter help" in practices, whatever that means
4. Went on to talk about the future and how NIL plays a part. Said, "If we can get some of these girls NIL deals that run in the $40,000-$50,000/year then maybe there isn't the pressure to leave and they can stay and just play volleyball"
5. When asked about future players, said he couldn't discuss them in detail or use their names. Then someone asked about setter recruiting and Jerritt said, "No, not this year. But in two years we'll have one. And she's special. Let say she's real special and I'm excited about that"
6. Said, "In fact, we have 3 recruits on their official here tonight" [Top row in denim jacket Singletary. Directly below her is Miller. Down from Miller and to her right 3 over is Halter]
As we were arriving inside the gym, the three players: Singletary, Miller, and Halter walked towards us and then past. I kicked myself for not stopping them and asking for a picture.
7. There were two very tall kids that seemed to be obvious recruits. Like freshman or sophmores, I passed during the game. They were with their parents and I saw passes in their hands.
Can't help but think points 2 and 4 are linked. Maybe NIL is Jerritt's way around the scholarship limit for the next two years? We were already scratching our heads trying to figure out if Emma Halter was on scholarship. But if JE can get NIL dollars for his older players to cover tuition/living expenses etc, he could free up scholarships for recruiting. I just don't see how else 2022 numbers can work if Molly comes back for her extra Covid year, given we probably need to have a scholarship for a second setter.

I'm glad Molly is coming back. We will be very young after next season and having her leadership could be key. Not sure whether she'll make the move back to middle or stay right-side though.

Torres is not that difficult. no...but admittedly Ka'aha'aina is? you should say both parts of the last name. Need to take your sarcasm meter in for repairs because it's broken.

She is a 4th year senior in 2022 and currently appears we are the limit with her included. Even with the return of Phillips in 2023, it appears the statement also indicates we will lose five players in 2023. Eggleston, SKT, and Gabriel will exhaust their eligibility. Fields and O'Neal could return for their COVID year, but I'm assuming that they were mentioned as being here for two more years indicates they are not returning for their COVID year. 2023 is also a long ways away and there could be additional attrition before then. As far as a second setter, Elliot may just utilize Iosia as the second setter if needed or try to bring in a walk-on as the second setter. It's going to be difficult to recruit a good scholarship setter to be in the same class as Swindle or a good transfer setter for the same reason.

They would have to be 22s or 23s or from another sport if they had passes.
Since they can't be 22s (we just signed) and they can't be 23s, which we're pretty fully loaded these may have been 24s/25s.
Volleyball 24s and 25s can not have contact yet and therefore would not have any sort of passes. Possibly basketball recruits?

I get your point, but a player who is good/popular enough to warrant NIL dollars shouldn't need to use their earnings in place of their college scholarship. They should be in addition to the scholarship, IMO. Obviously, it's all up the individual player, and the coaching staff to make it work.

Volleyball 24s and 25s can not have contact yet and therefore would not have any sort of passes. Possibly basketball recruits? Unless passes are strictly prohibited, it's most likely possible to arrange for passes without illegal contact.

Using Iosia as a back-up setter - I dunno. Her hands seem great for a libero, but it's usually a high and outside set. Not sure about her tempo, how she would run the middle, her block. Surely Jerritt has to price in the risk of injury on Swindle - it's not unheard of (hi, Kennedi Orr). Plus, if you have a game where Iosia has started as ds/libero and then Swindle has a bad night, you'd be sh!t out of luck. It might be hard to get a setter transfer from a top 15/top 20 school, but below that, I think it's doable. I could absolutely see someone willing to do it to play at Texas.

How do you know this isn't how the coaching staff is making it work? How else do you make the 2023 chart on p.1 of this thread accommodate an extra year for Molly? Hope somebody leaves? IMO that's a bad result, to lose a recruited underclassman with more years of playing eligibility in favor of a one-year supersenior* *unless it's a Rettke-caliber player

That leaves 12 scholarship players including Phillips.

I haven't kept up.
