I didn’t think it was mean, after following HS football and basketball recruiting for 30+ years I realize recruit rankings mean something but they don’t mean everything. For Kenna it could just be she loves UT and that’s where she wants to get her degree, who knows. Looking at her brief highlight film I would doubt some university wouldn’t offer her a scholarship. Agreed - HS is an indication, but lots of players blossom in college. Look at Tori Dilfer and Anna Stevenson. Even Fleck. Also, our very own Jhenna. I played for the same club coach as Jhenna, be it a different era of course. He was a super tough coach, the type that would single you out and make you cry during practice but my goodness was he a master at teaching the skills necessary to be a setter. By playing for coach, you would gain great skills but even tougher skin. It doesn’t surprise me that Jhenna found her way. I think Shook had better of everything but Jhenna for sure out toughed her. I believe Sarah Palmer and a few other standout Texas defenders also played for the same club.

Part of the "Eeeh, let's see what this walkon from Hawaii can do" attitude was that we had a bad experience just the previous year with a walkon L/DS from Cali that didn't play but caused a negative team atmosphere. Not saying that was Jhenna. But an unknown walkon from another state made us ......skeptical, let's say.

My observation in person is JE seems to be really hard on setters, I think Jhenna’s toughness and ability to take that coaching to me is one of the reasons she has flourished at Texas. Watching her she has the ability to take his ‘constructive criticism’ during a game when pulled aside, brush it off and go do her thing afterward.

I’ve only had the opportunity to meet coach Elliot once since he’s good friends with our former club coach. But if the criticism he gives is constructive, then Jhenna will have no problem taking that in and making changes. Our club coach was brutal at times. 😂

My first thought was the JE seems like a coach who is demanding but fair. But I think he also has pretty good EQ- knowing which players respond well to blunt criticism and when someone needs a different approach (ie Parra). Above all, he seems like a coach who is honest - can't help but think that Skylar going into the portal is a result of some pretty direct conversations

Sometimes you need that realism and tough love. You can’t hug everything out right? False harmony is just as bad as or worse than outright dissension. I think Texas has a great coach and staff. National championships can’t be the only standard by which performance is measured.

I read in the The Way Too Early 2022 SEC Thread that Shaye Eggleston is transferring from Alabama. If that is true is there any chance we continue that UT-UA family/transfer connection (Fisbeck transferring there, Shook and Eggleston's sisters playing there) and pick her up for some pin depth?

Total aside here, but Texas fans, can you please stop the frat boys who show up when Texas in the playoffs from constantly shouting "WE... ARE... TEXAS" with every bump, set, and spike?
The only thing they know about volleyball is "BUMP... SET... SPIKE".
Good on them for attending, but Jesus H. Christ it's annoying.
Have to imagine it is for the players as well.

I mean I'm pretty sure other schools do similar three part cheers, it isn't something unique to Texas. It's a way to keep fans engaged during the point without being too loud/disruptive when your team is on offense.
