Total aside here, but Texas fans, can you please stop the frat boys who show up when Texas in the playoffs from constantly shouting "WE... ARE... TEXAS" with every bump, set, and spike? The only thing they know about volleyball is "BUMP... SET... SPIKE". Good on them for attending, but Jesus H. Christ it's annoying. Have to imagine it is for the players as well. No. We like it. Feel free not to watch.

Sigh. Feeding the troll.
Listen. I was there the game where the cheerleaders got on a mic and said, "Hey y'all. We have a new thing we'd like you to do. When we receive the ball, we would like you to chant WE. ARE. TEXAS. as the ball is being played on our side of the court. Okay? Here, let us show you"
So no, it is not obnoxious frat boys. No, you don't write the AD. The Athletic department is the one who started this.
And the fact that it's one of the complaints of the opposing team's fans is proof that it's doing exactly what it was meant to do -> Get in the heads of opponents and their fans.
I've heard complaints from fanbases that Texas is being ungracious by yelling out "POINT TEXAS" after every point.
It's always something and more so because WE. ARE. TEXAS.
hornfanaustin is 100% correct. i remember the cheerleaders explaining the new thing to the crowd.

hornfanaustin is 100% correct. i remember the cheerleaders explaining the new thing to the crowd. “POINT TEXAS” has been around for well over 10 years. Jerritt (not the AD) wanted something during bump-set-hit about 5 years ago because some B1G schools were doing it. (PSU? Illinois?) He wanted to create a noisy atmosphere in the gym. He felt it gave those teams an advantage. So he’s the big reason behind “WE. ARE. TEXAS.”

The atmosphere at Gregory Gym is exactiy what Elliot wants. It’s amazing for recruiting, to get back on topic.

Didn’t 4 recruits commit shortly after attending the Stanford game which was loud. Kids commit for a host of reasons but I like to believe the atmosphere in Gregory helped.

I didn’t think we’d be this bored this soon after the season.

I didn’t think we’d be this bored this soon after the season. Lmao the fact that this is a whole topic shows we really have nothing to talk about in the off-season. Someone really complained about a chant that Texas has been doing for over a decade. Can we please announce a transfer so we have something to talk about.

i wasn't talking about "point Texas". i was talking about "we. are. Texas". am i misreading your post? Apologies for the clarification: “WE. ARE. TEXAS.” has been around for a few seasons now, but was the first season it really took off without much prompting. But to get back to recruiting — yes, I wholeheartedly agree that the atmosphere at Gregory is a huge bonus for recruiting! I find what Jerritt has done to build the fan base and environment is very similar to what Mack Brown did with football. Hard to believe now, but Mack’s “come early, be loud, stay late, wear orange!” was a huge boost to the environment and atmosphere at DKR.

Someone really complained about a chant that Texas has been doing for over a decade. Can we please announce a transfer so we have something to talk about. I’ve found that’s how all these dynamics work. You can have 10 reasonable people in a room having a civil discussion, even about topics they have severe disagreements on, but you add one person who enjoys throwing turds in the punch bowl, and suddenly that’s who drives discussion. It’s not just forums, although I’ve seen that happen over and over again. It’s any kind of discourse. Honestly, I think this is THE chief dynamic driving discourse across civilization today. We’re seeing a greater polarization around the world in politics. It’s because the people who drive the discussions are those who take the most extreme views, and the rest of us are forced to react. And with the advent of the internet, smart phones, and the polarization of news content, we’re all moving more towards the extreme ends, even if many of us would prefer to perceive ourselves as in the middle. in any case, the only reason this is a discussion point at all is because one anti Texas person who has made the same comment multiple times on VT particularly in game threads makes a comment about how irritating he finds Texas fans and what he perceives as those consequences, and the rest of us are reacting to it. You’ll find the same thing happens if someone comes on here and throws any number of conversational grenades. We can’t actually help it. There’s some kind of instinctual behavior going on. About the only way to prevent it is to have heavily moderated conversations, and that kind of repression has its own unintended consequences.

Doing a deep dive into the history of the football program isn’t going to serve a good purpose. But suffice to say the two coaches were dealing with a different foundation in terms of interest. Not that there was zero interest in volleyball, because Mick Haley had amazing success here, but this is 100% Elliot’s program, and he deserves all the credit in the world for building support among different key players. Mack Brown deserves a lot of credit, too, but it was and is a different dynamic, with different forces at work between volleyball and football.
