This is a huge get for us! A powerful middle blocker! Welcome Ayden! Glad you’re staying home. I actually think she’s choosing to come to Texas because we specifically redshirt our middles. Nebraska is known to not redshirt anyone ever and that can be disturbing if you know you’re losing playing time and eligibility years just to come off the bench every once in a while for a year (thinking about Maggie, Kennedi, Caroline, and baby kubik). She probably appreciates that not only will I get 5 years of an education paid for at one of the most prestigious public universities in the nation but also I get to stay home and train at MBU for an extra year. It’s a win-win situation for her!

Never said they didn’t. I wasn’t on here as much at that time but I would have the same opinion when anyone bashes a student athlete for transferring/flipping whether it’s to/from Texas. You said it was "telling" that there were Nebraska fans bashing her on SM. What exactly was it "telling" of? Their character. I just don’t agree with taking that approach. Doesn’t mean all Nebraska fans are like that.

Particularly, Texas aka MBU has redshirted their MBs but I don't particularly see Ames being redshirted. She's a baller.

Ames is a really good middle. She reminds me of McCage. One of the few middles we didn’t redshirt. I believe she was the captain of the u19 team at worlds.

It’s a win-win situation for her! I actually think it’s the opposite! She wants to go to a program where she has a higher likelihood of starting as a freshman and where her competition at MB is relatively green. She’ll only be competing against a RS Soph (Singletary) and a RS Fresh (Bunton). If she can be a breakout MB like Jackson at Neb, then I think she’ll have an extremely high chance of starting.

Yeah I see her having an impact like McCage. It's weird how people think that it's bad to not start. The thing with Nebraska is that even with Allick and Jackson, their other middle with Mendelson is REALLY good too like can start anywhere good. Like, Ames has a better chance at starting but also be the first one off the bench. I think that's likely the scenario that works better for her. Next year, we and Nebraska will have the 3 best recruited middles in the country. THAT'S CRAZY.

So with the recruit of Ames, does this likely take Harvey off the table? If she doesn’t chose Texas, I hope she goes to Stanford. Nebraska seems already way too stacked at MB.

I firmly believe part of this move is because we’re out on Harvey. I’m guessing it’s down to Stanford and Nebraska, with Stanford favored atm.

It’s a win-win situation for her! I don't think that is applicable to Ames. She would most likely redshirt at Nebraska next season unless she proved she was better than returning starters, Allick and Jackson. Although Texas has redshirted several middle blockers recently, next season will be our first in a while with zero returning (upperclassmen) starters. If Ames is not wanting to redshirt in 2024 (and she will be an early Spring enrollee), I think the chances of her playing as a true freshman are greater at Texas than Nebraska. And, just to clarify, Nebraska has redshirted plenty of players over the years, including Kelly Hunter.

I firmly believe part of this move is because we’re out on Harvey. I’m guessing it’s down to Stanford and Nebraska, with Stanford favored atm. Maybe. But, our coaching staff wouldn't have said 'no' to either 2024 Ames or 2025 Harvey if they both wanted to come. Without blinking, you take the in-state Ames as she would sign next week. If that impacts Harvey, there's plenty of time to find another MB for the 2025 season, if necessary.
