All these highlights are just highlights. Texas ball is when they're able to perform under OOS. I think AVW has an advantage on Spears with that skill alone. That's why a lot of us are frustrated with Jenna because she can't do that. Have yall noticed that Carlson has been setting this fassssssssst set on off balls and sometimes out of system too.

The last few seasons have taught me not to put too many high expectations on true freshmen; even those who enroll a semester early aren't always going to contribute in their first Fall season.
If I were to project an 18-player roster due to the new maximum limits (starting in summer 2025, I guess, as I don't think that rule will be applied for January 2025):
Setters (3): Averi Carlson; Rella Binney; __________ L/DS (4): Emma Halter; Callie Krueger; ___________; ____________ Opposites (3): Addi Gaido; ________; ____________ Middles (4): Marianna Singletary; Ayden Ames; Taylor Harvey; __________ Outsides (4): Abbi Vander Wal; Macaria Spears; Whitney Lauenstein; ___________
If McKenna Miller is going to be a Spring or Summer graduate, I don't see her being kept on the Fall roster. If she's not set to graduate prior to the Fall, it complicates things because she will have been at Texas for 3 years and committed to earning her degree. Even though she's a walk-on, she's probably been receiving NIL; tough to take that away from a student-athlete heading after 3 years
For Devin Kahahawai, sort of the same thing as Miller other than she's a scholarship player. She didn't enroll at Texas until Fall 2022; so, it's not likely she's scheduled to graduate before the Fall 2025 season begins. Pretty sure the ball will be in her court to remain in the program; there's just not guarantee she will win the starting job at Texas her final season. So, she'll have to decide if the risk (not starting) is worth the reward (her degree from Texas).
For Ella Swindler and Nya Bunton, I'm confident they each have a roster spot if they want to continue at Texas.
For players who have not yet seen much court time at Texas after one or two seasons, it will be difficult to have a spot on the roster due to the new maximum limits and the large incoming freshman class of recruits. I just don't see how more than one or two of these players can remain at Texas:
OH: Jordyn Byrd; Sydney Helmers; McKenna Miller OPP: Auburn Tomkinson DS: Reese Emerick; Brennan Ramirez

Personally I don't think either Ella or Devin are going anywhere** **Unless a hot transfer gets picked up. If the rumors of Kennedy Martin going into the Portal are true and JE can land her, all best are off re: Devin IMO

If Carlson continues to be the starter the rest of the season and Texas does well, she goes into the offseason as the incumbent starting setter for 2025. The setter position in volleyball is like the quarterback position in football where only one player typically plays the entire match/game. I just don't think Swindle will want to be the backup setter in 2025; so, yes, I think the chances are high that she transfers

I know people were speculating that Kruger was a walk on but Texas posted that Kruger signed a few hours ago. I’m assuming that means she’s on scholarship after all?

Don’t you still get announced if you have already been admitted into the school, even if you’re not on scholarship?

I can’t imagine texas has any true walk ons after this season right? I mean we certainly have the money to give out 18 scholarships.

The SEC has not yet approved an increase to 18 scholarships for volleyball. SEC did not approve the football scholarship increase from 85 to 105 for the 2025 season, but roster size has to be capped at 105 based on new NCAA rule. Most likely 105 gets approved for 2026 season. But, if 18 scholarships are approved by the SEC for 2025, I think Texas will still give out 12 full scholarships and at a minimum the other 6 players on the roster will receive partial scholarships.
