so i need to be enlightened (i'm watching the match vs USD) what is the correct pronunciation of Hawaii I just finished watching it. Volleyball aside, I like Okino, she's a ray of sunshine. Not sure about pronunciation of Hawai'i, but I was wondering if they were pronouncing Hellvig's first name to sound more Hawaiian? Like it rhymes with "Mana".

Wow. 5 pages already lol. I’m excited for this match, as a Husker fan I have a few other teams I’ll follow throughout the season and cheer for, and Hawaii is one of them. Of course for this match I’ll be going for Nebraska but I’m happy to be seeing Hawaii in the sweet 16 again (although it would be nice if they were in another regional so I can go for them too).
Looking from a Nebraska perspective, I think the Huskers will have to be ready for Choy’s serve. She did a lot of damage to San Diego last night. Also, hopefully Nebraska can get Lexi on Hellvig. Lastly, Nebraska will have to prepare to hit against that Hawaii block. Since the game is still five days away, I don’t wanna post too much about what I think needs to happen. But I am quite excited to watch it 😬

Okino hasn't had two consecutive outstanding matches yet, we know she's a nervous nerd. Wags should be in a libero jersey ready to go in instead. Yes I realize this is beyond RAM's comprehension.

so i need to be enlightened (i'm watching the match vs USD) what is the correct pronunciation of Hawaii All the years I lived in Hawaii, I never pronounced it the way locals did. Our entire family pronounced it: ha-WAH-ee Sometimes, when lazy, we pronounced it: ha-WHY The former is acceptable while the latter is incorrect but tolerated. The real real locals would know better but I’ve heard the following is closer to being accurate: huh-VUH-ee I personally have NEVER pronounced it this way.

They're going to need some success on the pins early to get Stivrins and Callie moving. If those two get to camp out in the middle, Hawaii's middles will have issues. In fact, I would expect that Cook will be telling Jazz, Lexi, and Madi, that he's going to trust them to defend one-on-one more often than usual so that Lauren and Callie can focus on shutting down the middle attack, including the cross.
