We will learn a lot about leadership and coaching ability this fall, especially in the first month of the season.

Some familiar and comforting sights and sounds. Would have loved to see some live volleyball yesterday- can't wait for the next opportunity!

The biggest question is who takes on the libero position. Illinois must be on the market for a libero/ds. We only have Kuper, Eseke, and Chi as the only real backrow options. Kuper although she has been steady was the weaker one out of Welsh and O'Brien. Tamas must atleast grab one legit DS. Chi and Eseke have not even gotten a chance to play in the B1G yet.

Will be interesting for sure. Then they have Caroline Barnes coming in the next year.

I'm most interested in who passes. With O'Brien, Welsh and Quade all gone Illinois loses 1600 of the 2200 balls they passed last year. Quade only managed to pass a 2.0 (not that bad for an OH, but not great either). Kuper remains but she was only at 2.14. When you consider O'Brien managed 2.28 and Welsh was at 2.38 (one of the best DS passing marks in the nation) those two are big losses in terms of ball control.

For those interested in Jac Quade, the UCLA season was cut short by the virus but they did get to play several matches first. Looks like Jac played in two matches on the #5 team and also played in several exhibition matches on the #6 team. Had a very strong W/L record: uclabruins.com/sports/womens-beach-volleyball/schedule

We should be on the market for a strong libero. Northwestern got a good steal with Miller from Nebraska. We need to make a move on getting a DS ASAP. WE only have three DS and not all of them are ready.

Efforts have been made to get a starting Libero via the portal but with the number of top programs that needed one, Illinois have been in competition with Penn State, Pittsburgh, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Texas, Washington, UCLA, USC, BYU and many others. Most of them are still trying. It's a tough market out there.

Taken from the article: "Michelle Bartsch-Hackley was in the middle of a workout at her home in Champaign when Illinois athletics director Josh Whitman called to inform her of her inclusion in the Class of 2020 in the Illini Athletics Hall of Fame. The news came as a breath of fresh air after the coronavirus pandemic suddenly forced Bartsch-Hackley and her husband, Corbin, to return to the United States in the middle of her season with Turkish powerhouse Vakifbank Spor Kulübü. “It’s nice to get good news,” Bartsch-Hackley said, “and to know that your hard work is paying off.” If anyone can successfully adjust with the changing tide, Bartsch-Hackley certainly can. She has been adaptive throughout her career and will continue to be as the situation requires. “Sports provides a lot of entertainment and a lot of like, relief, to the public,” Bartsch-Hackley said. “I know that everyone around the world has been missing sports a lot. And so have we as athletes, but also I think everyone I've talked to has been pretty positive and trying to go about this the best way that we can.”"
